Vent!

gggrrr...sometimes I wish I was an only child! Some of you may remember the drama with my brother and his fiancee (they live in Florida) and how my mom and the fiancee nearly brawled it out at my bro's house 'cause she's accused my mom of saying things that were never said and my mom was really upset 'cause she bent over backwards for this girl. Anyway, they barely like each other now and my bro's wedding is next month. Fast forward to yesterday. My bro's fiancee calls me 'cause she forgot to put the entree (sp?) card in the invitation and needs to know what DH and I would like for dinner...I was cordial to her as usual (even tho' I personally can't stand her for the way her and my bro have treated me through the years...long story), so after telling her the selection she puts my bro on the phone and I'm having a nice conversation with him 'til he gets bent out of shape 'cause apparently my mom wasn't supposed to tell me that his friends mistress (he cheated on his wife) was pregnant. She's not such a mistress anymore being he left his wife for her. Anyway, the girl is due like next month and they live across the street from my 'rents...so my mom knows she's preggers (it's obvious)...he starts flying off the handle that my mom has a big mouth so of course I defend her and him and I are brawling it out. Anyway, my point is...now I REALLY don't want to go to his wedding anymore and I don't know what to do (if I should go or not)! We were never close growing up and had a very strained relationship in our 20's (I believe 'cause he always thinks he's right and I don't). Anyway, what would u do? =/

Re: Vent!

  • Siblings. I feel your pain. DH and I joke when discussing the children number that having just one might be the best thing we ever give the kid. I'd say since you probably have made all the arrangements, etc.for the wedding already, I'd say just go. Since you didn't have high expectations before this "conversation," they probably haven't dipped much lower, right? Plus, one so rarely has  to even speak or deal with the bride and groom on their wedding day. Have fun with the rest of the guests, enjoy a spot of nice warm Florida climate. Sorry that you have to deal with this crap.

  • ditto Mrs_Bill

Mrs_Bill - as an only child, i have to say i really enjoyed it. and having married a guy with three sisters, i now have a deeper appreciation of not having to deal with any siblings.

  • I think you should definitely go.  Assuming the positive, this will be your brother's only wedding.  Down the road you might work things out with your brother and regret not being there.  I'm not saying you need to be all chummy with him & FSIL, but you should be there.

  • I too think you should go. Partially because he is your brother and you never know, down the road you may patch things up as Helene said, and you would feel really crappy having missed his wedding. Also, I'd go and try to have as much fun as you can (hello, Florida sunshine!)
  • Thanks for the advice ladies. After a little cooling off, I've decided the best thing to do (to keep the peace in the family) is to just go and get it over with. After that I can go back to hating him. lol Frigg'n siblings...

  • I am sorry Bonnie that you are going through this. Sad Being that it was just my mom and I, I didnt have to deal with drama with siblings, but I would definitely encourage folks to have more than one kid...there were times where it would have been nice to have a sister or brother (well now I do have a half bro)...
