Tell me what you think of the Flip - Good & Bad

DH and I are looking to pick up a video camera before January, nothing too fancy, just to capture memories and be able to send videos to the grandparents, post on the family blog, and whatnot.

Originally we were looking at getting a Cannon FS200, but we have read some good things about the Flip.

I have seen that a few people have posted positive reviews on this board about the Flip as well.  I was just wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with a Flip, if they wished they would have gone with a more traditional handheld video camera or if it is just a great no hassle easy to use camera as advertized?

Thank you for your help & advise! =)

Re: Tell me what you think of the Flip - Good & Bad

  • I have one. I think it's a cool thing to have for quick little clips here and there. I would get something more traditional if you want to capture longer videos.

DH loves it to capture videos of him doing flips and other (stupid) stuff...LOL.

Over time, the capacity lessons, but their tech support sent me a solution to fix it. I haven't tried it yet.

  • I have one and love it.  It is small enough to carry around in your purse so it is available and I think you get shots that you wouldn't get if you only have a bigger one because you wouldn't have it all the time.  I even got a little tripod that works with it.  Another thing I like is that it loads onto the computer as a .avi and is good quality.  Mine will shoot an hour's worth of video, but I know that now there are some that will do two hours worth.  This makes it preferrable to the video in a cell phone.  I don't use the software that comes with it for editing because I already used Movie Maker and Premiere Elements, so I continue to use those.  Movie Maker is free on a Windows machine and is easy to use.
