Need help with restaurant on The Hill

Hi There,

We'll be visiting family in St Louis next weekend and want to eat on The Hill at least once. We were there a couple years ago and ate a couple different restaurants but don't remember where.  What is your fav restaurant on The Hill?  How about downtown?  We're staying downtown and will need some options for b-fast and lunch. Any reviews for Pappy's Smokehouse?

Thanks for your help!!!

Re: Need help with restaurant on The Hill

  • Pappy's is amazing.  I highly recommend it.  Get there early--they only make a certain amount of food each day to make sure everything is always fresh, and if they sell out of food, they close!

As for restaurants on The Hill, I agree that Favazzas is good.  I just ate at Lorenzo's yesterday--also one of my favorites.  Really, it's hard to go wrong.

As far as places for lunch and dinner downtown, there's a new diner that just opened up at Tucker and either Washington or Locust, I think.  I haven't tried it, but it looks good!  SqWire's and Square One Brewery in Lafayette Square (just south of downtown) both do good brunches.  Good lunches at Kitchen K, Flannery's, the Dubliner, the Over Under Bar & Grill and Lucas Park Grille, all along Washington Ave.

  • Fantastic, thanks ladies.  We'll plan on getting to Pappy's right at 11 on Saturday!

  • Roosters for breakfast downtown is the BEST!  It is on Locust at 11th.
  • Pappy's is great, I'm going tomorrow.

On the hill our favorite is Charlie Gitto's.  It's good, old-school italian.  A nice restaurant if you're looking for something more upscale.

  • As for the Hill Charlie Gittos is great, so is Cunetto's.I live downtown & the breakfast buffet at the Renaissance hotel is awesome! There's also a really amazing breakfast spot called Benton Park Cafe...it's 55 south to Arsenal (the first exit) and go right, you can't miss it. It's only about 5 minutes from downtown & it's DEFINITELY worth the trip if you're big on breakfast!!!
