Un-flipping-believable

Leaving work today I got a call from my dad...who was at the police station.

He made a perfectly legal, with no on-coming traffic, left turn. This didn't sit well with "Mr. Somewhere-to-be" who flew up behind him, and tailgated him so closely my dad couldn't even see his headlights in the rearview mirror.

They road went into 2 lanes, and the guy came up along side of my dad, then swerved to run my dad off the road (almost taking the front end of my dad's car off). The guy then stopped at the light, got out of his car to yell at my dad, and then punched my dad in the face through his car window.

My dad, god love him, remained calm, called 911, and followed the guy to an apartment complex and took pictures of his license plate. A lady who witnessed the incident gave her statement to the police and they found the guy through the registration on the car. Needless to say my pops pressed charges. It wasn't like a young punk, it was a guy in his 40s.

I met him at the police station and he was shaken but okay. I think I needed the calming down because I had a few choice words for this d-bag and wanted to kick him in the throat.

Way to go buddy, you punched a disabled senior citizen in the face. Hope you can sleep well at night. Super Angry

Re: Un-flipping-believable

  • Wow that's just absolutely insane.  Sorry your dad had to go through such a crazy experience.
  • Yikes, your poor dad.  I hope he is all right.

  • Wow! What a jerk! I am so glad your dad is pressing charges!

I had a similar thing happen to me, although I thankfully lost them before they could hurt me. They had snow fly off the roof and hit my car, nearly causing me to wreck so I honked at them to let them know about the snow flying off. Well, they weren't too thrilled that I honked (mind you I was also on rt 30 when the snow fell on me) so they got behind me and tailed me. They followed me off the exit and I went a really strange way to see if they were following me and sure enough they were. When we got to a light they kept making really threatening gestures towards me to let me know they were following me and I was really panicked. I knew not to drive home, so I drove around and was about to drive to a police station when I saw that I could lose them if I flew through a yellow light, and I did lose them. I went and hid in a backroad until I was sure they were gone and then drove home. I was so scared. I was shaking so badly!

I just don't understand how people think they can control the roads. It is so unsafe and unfair!

  • There are some very sick people in this world.  I'm so sorry that happened to your dad, but am thankful it wasn't worse.  Sending positive thoughts to both of you.
  • I'm sorry your dad had to go through that.  The guy who did is it an f-ing idiot.  I want to punch him too and I don't even know your dad!

I'm so afraid of road rage since I've had Sophia.  I will let people do pretty much anything and not act on it when she is with me in the car.

  • OMG! Wow, I mean...seriously?! Wow. I can not believe the audacity of people these days. I'm glad there wasn't an accident from this incident or worse (and that your dad is alright). Good for him for taking action and pressing charges!
  • WOW! I'm glad your Dad is OK he definitely did the right thing.

People are crazy. I mean, I can sometimes understand the road rage thing, but common' people, do you have to really get out of your car and punch someone in the face? We live in a world with scary people.

  • Holy moly, that's awful.  I'm glad your dad will be alright!

It's good for your dad that he was able to remain calm.  In my defensive driving course, we were told that the best thing you can do in that situation is to stay calm because it can prevent the problem from escalating.  I tend to feel threatened easily and panic- not helpful, believe me.

  • Good Lord, who does that??  I'm glad your dad's okay and good for him for pressing charges.  That's awesome that there was a witness who was willing to give a statement.
  • Wow...that is so scary! I'm glad your dad is okay and that he was able to get the guy's information.  I hope he has some resolution soon.

  • omg. I can't believe that. hopefully karma will work its magic and he'll be one of those people they find face-down in their own sewage tank.

I'm glad your dad's ok though! he did a great thing!

  • I can't believe someone would do that! Serious anger management issues!
  • OH MY FLIPPING GOD!  Are you serious?  I am glad your dad is alright!  It's so scary anymore because you don't know what people are capable of.  I'm always worried someone will pull a gun on me -- they've done that several times around here on 83 already that I've read in the paper.

I'm glad your dad had the sense to get a picture of the license plate and the guy got what was coming to him.  That's definitely assault.

    Again, glad your dad's okay!

  • That's absurd and horrible! I'm so sorry to hear it happened, and I'm glad your dad is okay, and I REALLY hope that craphead gets everything he deserves.

  • Indifferent

Good grief... so glad to hear your dad is (relatively) okay, but it's terrifying how crazy some people are.  Yikes!

  • It was a totally absurd situation for sure. But as Dad said, "I was in the Navy. I know how to take a punch." FYI Dad, the Navy was 40+ years ago. Stick out tongue

    He's spunky.

I really don't know how he managed to stay calm because he usually has a temper.

Thanks for all the good thoughts!

  • Un-flipping-believable is a nice way to put that, without a doubt!
I hope you and your father are doing well now....

Luckily the conscious is an annoying little booger and if that guy even has one he'll always remember it.

Gah, the nerve of some people.

DH and I were heading home from helping our friends sprint car team when we pulled out from dropping the friend off at home, there was a car nowhere in sight so DH turned onto another road and all the sudden this guy come flying out of nowhere right on our rear, he was all but pushing us, luckily DH was born and raised in this area (the other person clearly was not) so DH did about 80 mph through the wet and winding roads while it was raining, he never does that with me in the car and I knew the guy behind us was trying to wreck us, why else would he be so bent on getting us, we smoked the guy and DH got us to the intersection to the road leading to our home and another to another town, we lost that car and so DH turned the lights all off and tried to drive down the road as fast as he could occasionally flashing the lights on then off to see turns, we passed a car going to that intersection we just came from and they turned to the road leading to the next town, suddenly we heard & saw the car flying down the road after the car that turned towards that town....DH sped up and got us home and we waited in the dark for a few minutes to make sure the guy was completely gone and didn't try doubling back to see if we did go the way we did.
    Scary to say the least.
