airport express issue

We recently moved and prior to that the express worked great. Now that we are here I am having an issue setting up my printer. It keeps giving me an error immediately. The internet works fine and it works for my husband but not for me :( I just updated to Snow Leopard do you think that may have caused the issue. I am getting frustrated I have stuff to print!

Re: airport express issue

  • Could you clarify a few things?  Are you using the same modem that you were using before, or did you change internet providers?  What is the error you get when you hook up the printer?  And are you hooking the printer up to the Airport Express or directly into your computer?
  • new internet provider we moved states. I am trying to print wirelessly so the express is connected to the printer directly. It literally just says error in the printer utility.  I have tried a few things troubleshooting but i just dont know what the issue is..and if it has to do with snow leopard :(
  • If you have a new provider, then the problem might be in the settings.  I know that some modems/providers allow for multiple computers to be connected by default (the modem is capable of DHCP) while other modems/providers only provide for a single IP address (the modem is not capable of DHCP).

What probably happened is that before, you were with an ISP like the former, and your Airport Express was set to bridge mode, which means it just acts as a direct connection to your modem, and the modem does all the work of juggling every computer connected to it.  That's probably why only one computer could connect to the internet through it.

With your current modem, you need to change that setting so that the Airport Express is in charge of juggling the computers connected to it instead.

In the Airport Utility, choose your Airport Express and under the "Internet" settings, at the bottom you should see "Connection Sharing."  Assuming it currently says "Off (Bridge Mode)" (that's what ours is set to), change it to "Share a Public IP Address."

Hopefully, that should fix your internet problem, at the very least.  I'm not sure about the printer problem at the moment, so I'll do some research and get back to you on that.

  • It may think you're trying to connect to your old network (if you changed routers or anything). I don't know anything about Snow Leopard, but I'd try seeing how your computer is trying to connect to the internet, then go from there!
  • its not the internet its just printing that is an issue perhaps i wasnt clear originally. and it will print from dh comp not mine a mac he has a netbook...thoughts

Sorry...  This was the line that screwed me up: "The internet works fine and it works for my husband but not for me"

  • should i bring it to the store will they fix that?
  • I had an issue with my printer that used to work on my airport express and then didn't, and I realized that the issue that changed was that I got a new laptop that used vista (a change from before) and the printer driver didn't work with vista, and that impacted wireless printing.  I don't understand it better in order to be more technical about it, but maybe it's a similar issue to snow leopard/printer driver as a relationship, rather than airport express being the issue?
