what do you have/what do you love? i need one for the upcoming rainy season...
i'm thinking of getting one that goes over my butt....is this a wise move?
Re: rain coat...
yes, definitely rain boots!!! I have adorable polkadot ones. I wear them all the time and then carry cute office shoes in my bag.
As to coats, I usually do a hooded sweater under a longer pea coat, and then if it's pouring, bust out the umbrella.
Ok..yes, I currently live in an area that rains like 5 days a year, BUT I have this jacket for rain/windy weather and LOVE it! (I've worn it in the rainy NorCal weather, camping, etc. so I've tested it out in rainy weather! ) I like it becuase it's super waterproof, but it's not bulky at all, so I can throw a thick sweater under it, a thin sweater, no sweater, etc. It hangs to about the middle of my butt (but I'm short), and I got it in black so it would go with anything and I can wear it to work if need be.

I have the same coat as you. : ) Only I got mine in a kid's size because I liked the colors better (I didn't want black because I didn't want a dreary color on a rainy day) and it was cheaper. I got it because Jeff has had one for a million years (or since before I met him) and I've always loved it.
Like SDgirl said, it's pretty much perfect.

thanks for the rec ladies!!! and yesss i DEFINITELY need boots...i keep forgetting about that. the ones i have are wayyy too small. the reason i asked about the coat is because i'm a nerd and i like to bike when i can, so i want something that will keep my clothing dry while biking...anddd i dont think biking with an umbrella will be the safest option, unfortunately hehehe.
i really like the marmot coat and i've heard they're great..thanks! i'm just wondering if i should get a coat that goes over my butt and i wish they made one but it doesnt look like they do

The Marmot is the best. I have lived here my whole life and had many coats. I find the Columbia ones lose effectiveness at keeping you dry over the years as do the Northface.
You will need a winter coat too here in Oregon, wool or down is best and always get one with a hood, cause it can rain and snow at the same time. Get good gloves and a good hat that has ear flaps. Its sooo cold here mornings and nights, especially if you are downtown waiting for bus or out on an errand.
Rain boots are great for walking to and from work, but sometimes you get too hot. Uggs are essential here in Oregon, waterproof and warm...also maybe some urban hiking boots too for just doing errands on a rainy day, flats and regular gym shoes wont cut it in the rain where parking lots are full of giant puddles you can't avoid.
Invest in a good fold up umbrella. Not too expensive, they always break in the wind.
Have fun this winter. Remember to not wear pants too long on wet days, they wick up the water.
