Re: Friday!
Thanks Kristi! I love it too!
I was wondering what you Chicago ladies would think of the Olympics. I think it would be so neat to be near it but like you guys said all the traffic and extra security and tourists will probably be nuts!
Good morning ladies! I couldn't sleep last night but still feel good this morning. I am headed to my moms so we can go shopping!
This!
Oh..and GM!
Jen, until you work downtown and know how crazy it is during normal rush hour, I think I can complain a bit. I am very much welcoming the once in a life time opportunity but there are some logistic issues that the city really needs to work out. Yes it would be great for the tourist attractions and the city economny but look how crazy the train system gets on July 4th fireworks. And that's one day, not a month. The traffic into the city on a normal days is nuts, add a bears game and it's our of control. I guess I just don't see how they are going to accomodate those of us that work downtown and those going to be spectators.
Then there is the fact that I live by Toyota Park, which we must drive past on our drive to downtown.
Overall, I am concerned with how the city will manage the flow of people.
That's exactly how we felt when nyc was in the running for the 2012 Olympics. We were both so happy when London won. Yeah it's cool that they would be in the States, BUT for the people that live in, live near, and work in those cities what a freaking nightmare.
Actually, I worked downtown in the loop for almost 3 years a few years ago. I commuted in via Metra just like you. I KNOW how congested it is but honestly, that is part of working downtown in the loop. It just goes with the territory.
The good thing is that the city has 6 years to prepare. If the IOC feels that Chicago is ready and will be prepared to accomodate the Olympics, then we must think the city will be as well. I just think the overall economy boost and recognition the city (and country) will get outweighs the negative.
I thought you used to work dowtown but what I'm saying is, it's gotten worse. I started working down here 5 years ago and in these 5 years the train system has gotten more run down and burdoned. The metra I was supposed to take to take had mechanical problems and never showed up. Luckily I was able to get a ride from DH before he left the house.
I just don't know where the funding would come from. The CTA has been trying to raise fares to improve the lines and even get federal funding, but to no avail. The CTA systems in and of itself is really bad. Ride in the loop and see how crappy the train stations are. Some of them are original and it shows.
I'm sure they do but the amount of money needed to re-build that infrastructure has to be nuts. The mayor also just signed something about covering the costs if they get to high or the IOC doesn't cover them.
Oh well, it is what it is and I'm sure they'll make it work.
