Shocking news (kinda long)

So, i've put in a few applications with NYU and i emailed the people that i listed as references to let them know, including my former boss when i worked in real estate and i was his (and his wife's) assistant. I get an email back from him saying to of course use he and his wife for references and then continues to tell me that he's had a 'riding accident'. At first i was confused and thought he meant motorcycle, but that doesn't sound like him... He meant horse riding. He was thrown off of a horse, 10ft in the air and landed pretty hard on his left side, breaking 8 ribs and puncturing both lungs. Now a third of his left lung is filled with fluid and his left hand is pretty useless!! And he plays guitar and has a guitar collection!! I was so shocked by this news and emailed him back right away with my condolences and wishing him to get better! He and his wife were like my NY parents! I'd even gone out of town with them to their house upstate and met his sister and her family and hung out with them! I just got really sad and teared up a bit. I'm sending him a 'get well' card today.

Then...DH texts me this morning asking if i'd heard from my sister or gotten her message. I'm like 'uh...no...', but i know that DH was on the train going over the Manhattan Bridge and probably went back under cuz he didn't text me back. So my brain starts thinking something is wrong and everyone in my family is dead... I text my sister and she calls me back. My niece has been sick (fighting a cold and ear infection for a while now), but now she's on a breathing machine cuz she's all stuffed up and wheezy. (yet i hear her screaming in the background, so i guess that's a good sign) She has a dr's appt this morning and if the doctor thinks she needs it, they're going to admit her to the hospital to knock this infection out of her! She has a double ear infection, an eye infection and who knows what else that is making it hard for her to breathe. Poor baby girl!! But i know that the first year is when babies get sick, and she's in daycare, so that doesn't help.

Just a weird day.

aaawww, I'm sorry to hear you've had a day of bad news. Sometimes that happens. =/ I'm glad to hear both your old boss and niece are getting treatment and are on the road to recovery. They are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh gosh, when it rains it pours huh? But, I am glad that everyone seems to be on the mends and no life threatening circumstances are involved.
