Any tips for cleaning linoleum?

Our kitchen floor and downstairs bathroom floor is old linoleum - white with blue and gray....I. Hate. It. Every time I clean it to try and get it to look clean, it still looks just as dirty after, so I usually end up just sweeping it and really don't want to spend all day scrubbing it by hand but maybe I really have to....there are just so many tiny groves - ugh. I just tried some vinegar and water on the bathroom floor (figured I'd test there) and still looks like crap - yay!

I probably have to strip the floors but don't have time for that now...I just always remember my mother washing and waxing her kitchen floor and we could practically skate on it in our socks....not so much with this floor :P

Re: Any tips for cleaning linoleum?

  • i just looked online.  it says to clean linoleum floors you should use ivory liquid soap and water.  using other detergents tends to leave residue behind making the floor sticky and leaving behind dirt. hope that helps a little.
  • we have some HOT lino in our apartment and so far the thing I've found that makes it "shine" is some good old fashioned Mop and Glo... and for like marks and tread marks I use the Mr. Clean magic eraser!! Good luck!!!

  • I will have to try the dove soap thing. My linoleum is awful too. Why do they put so much texture in it! They only way I have made it look clean is to scrub it by hand with a hard bristled brush and then mop up the water. It takes a long time. :(
