Day Care Costs

Hello Ladies,

I was curious if anyone would be willing to share where and how much (ballpark figures are great) they currently pay for day care. We are looking for two to three full days a week.

I am quickly realizing if I go back to work after maternity leave, I will only be doing so to pay for day care. However, I have been unable to get good numbers to even estimate by. Some centers will only give you tuition info after taking a tour and why should I waste my time on those if it's more then my income would be. If you would prefer, you are more than welcome to email me: carolynandscott at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

Re: Day Care Costs

  • Where are you located?  City (neighborhood or downtown) versus suburb makes a huge difference.

A lot of centers we looked at only did full-time so I can't help with a lot of numbers.

Part-time at our daycare in the city (Logan Square area) is $95 per day (or $425 per week for full-time care).

  • My friend just found a day care in her area (Western & Montrose) for $250 a week full time. It's the cheapest she found.

  • The day care center we were looking at in the far north suburbs is $275/wk.  We decided it was more cost effective for DH to become a SAHD.

  • We are going to pay 200 a week in the nw burbs for a a home daycare.

  • We're expecting to pay around $300/wk in the western burbs.  Depressing!
