Hello everyone! I usually post over on the MN board but started lurking around a few others lately.
I'm REALLY wanting to have a theme for my baby shower that is different and people will remember it. I'm thinking the week after thanksgiving, and I am moving to Japan about 3 weeks after that. (We figured we would ship any gifts there once we get our permanent housing.) I'm prob one of the least creative people ever, so I thought I'd pick the brains of some people that write about this stuff all the time
Not too large of a budget, so any money saving ideas are especially welcome. As far as the location if that matters, its at my moms house which is quite spacious inside, has a large backyard with a pool, and the weather could be anything from warm to rainy, its southern CA so who knows. TIA!
Re: Looking for something different!
Do you know the sex of the baby?
Also are there certain things that you absolutely do not want or think are cheesy?
I've had a glass of wine, so my reading comprehension skills might not be up to snuff, but the way that I read this is you're asking for shower ideas for your own shower. Is that the case?
Hi! Just a quick thought... you could throw an "around the world and back" or "peace themed" international type of shower. The foods could represent all of the world's great cuisines, for Japan (your destination) Sushi Rolls with Chop Sticks and Wasabi, Soy etc., Italian, Spanish, French, Morocan, etc. foods.
Decor and such could be international inspired as well - paper lanterns, beautiful tapestries, sheer fabric canopies....
whatever you like! just a thought.
Good Luck and God Bless.
I would definitely use Japan as a theme. Silk pillows, bright reds and yellows, takeout favor boxes, paper lanterns..the list goes on.
Where are you living in Japan? The living quarters are very small (in the cities), so typical baby furniture etc may be oversized.
Mi Casa
I also 2nd the idea of using Japan as a starting or inspiration point.
I really like this cherry blossom shower.
You can get 50 white take out boxes at Smart and Final for about $6.
Michael's has cherry blossom paper you can cut in to strips to attach to the box.
You can collect some branches and attach tissue flowers.
Serve edamame, sushi from Costco is reasonable, teriyaki chicken, rice, and udon.
If you are having a girl you could do a Hello Kitty Theme.
GL!!
