I don't think a lot of you know me

But if you want, you may ask me questions. I promise I'm not boring. And you can get some posts and stop being a newbie. :)

For the record, I'm not Canadian but I put all my dates in a European format (ddmmmyyyy) which drives DH crazy, and I like green too.

Re: I don't think a lot of you know me

  • We have a lot of green lovers :)

It killed me when I first moved here to switch to US date form.  I confused all of my teachers.

Have you always lived in Phoenix?  If not where have you been prior?  Do you like Phoenix?

  • I am originally from Seattle (where my parents live now). I have lived in Texas, Hawaii, Florida, and Wisconsin. I moved here from Wisconsin 4 years ago, and I love Arizona. I hate being cold and I actually enjoy the heat. We will only move from AZ unless DH's company practically forces him to move to NYC or Texas.
  • Do you have any siblings?
  • I have a younger sister. She's in college in CA.
  • What's your dream vacation?
  • Dream vacation. That's hard.

A week in the Maldives or a year spent traveling the globe seeing everything. Either way, I don't have the money to do that and I"m pretty sure I couldn't bring my dogs with me on the year long trip.

  • A year long vacay sounds awesome!

    Favorite ride at Disneyland?

  • Confession: I have never been to Disneyland. Only Disneyworld. And I like Space Mountain at Disneyworld.
  • How did you meet your husband?
  • That's a fair answer, if I remember correctly they are a bit different at each park...

Are you hoping boy or girl?

Same here - never been to DL, only DW.  Since moving here I feel funny about it since it's so close!

  • I met my husband in college at a fraternity party. Tres classy!

As for baby, we both want a boy. But we'll take happy and healthy any day. Last night I had a very realistic dream about giving birth to a little girl and naming her Phoebe, and this has now convinced DH that we are having a girl.

  • I think one of the best things about being preggers is the vivid dreaming!
  • I was going to say the sex, but the dreams are pretty interesting too! Mine mostly revolve around the fact that I suddenly have a baby and have to figure out how to keep it alive.
  • Do you believe -

    that time heals all wounds?

    in love at first sight?

    in aliens?

  • -time heals all wounds: no. there are some things that you can't forget. You can move on and dwell, but you can't forget.

-love at first sight: yes. Cheesy as it sounds, I loved my husband the first night we met. I wasn't sure I'd marry him, but I loved him.

-in aliens: well we live in an awfully big universe and it can't just be us right?

  • Do you believe in the afterlife?
  • Undecided on the afterlife. The scientist in me sees the physical aspect: we'll either rot or we are cremated into a pile of ashes. As for the soul...I don't know.
  • Do you think that the government hides a lot from us?

If so, what are your thoughts on this?  Good thing/Bad thing?

  • Hide, yes. But at the same time I think a lot of people don't take the time to do the work to investigate and find the answer. I think the language the government uses is hard to understand and over many peoples head. Case in point: read the Code of Federal Regulations. I am required for my job to read and understand a subsection of it. The training on it takes days to complete. It's legalese.

Is this good or bad, I have no idea. And that's way more answer than you probably wanted.

  • No, that was a great answer :)

I was actually having this conversation with my brother yesterday.

What do you do for a living?

  • I contract with companies to do research on new drugs to treat cancer. I have sort of a hard job to explain. The drugs I work with are in the human testing phase.
  • Neat!

Have you taken a ride on the light rail?

  • Sounds like an interesting job.  I totally agree that people often don't do their due diligence in many things!

Do you get flu shots? Are you going to get an H1N1 vaccine?

  • I have not taken a ride on the light rail, although I want to. I wanted to a light rail pub crawl but that's not really an option right now.

I will be getting both the flu and H1N1 vaccines this year. This is the first time I've gotten the flu vaccine, but flu (not just H1N1) has been so bad this year that I need to. I can't travel for work (I travel to doctor's offices and hospitals) if I'm sick. And I don't want to take a ton of time off for being sick.

  • What's your favorite candy bar?
  • The light rail rocks!

    Are you afraid of needles?

  • Hmmm my favorite candy bar? Probably Heath bars. I love toffee.

I used to be deathly afraid of needles. I passed out and had to be taken to the ER after getting a TB test once. I wanted to get over it, so I sucked it up and donated blood. I still don't like it, but I can do it. But I would still never ever get a tattoo, and I don't even have my ears pierced.

  • IMHO, having a baby will totally get you past it!
  • HA! Yes. The first visit they took 5 tubes. I looked at it and I was like "FYI, it takes me 15-20 minutes to donate a pint of blood", but the lab techs were used to it. I have very tiny veins and after a very nice nurse took the time to tell me where I should be drawn from, I don't have nearly as many problems as I did in the past. I have too many not so fun stories about being poked far too many times.
