IN Nestie moving - location recs?

Hi Ladies, I accepted an offer with an STL firm.

Right now they have offices in St. Charles (MO), Union (MO), STL (Green Park Industrial Drive) and OFallon (IL), as well as Springfield and Rolla. I was also told that there were a couple in the STL area not listed. I get to pick which office I report to.

We don't want to live on the IL side and we are looking for an area where we can buy at least 2 acres; we'll need to think about school systems with this house.

Any recs on locations near the offices or places that we should avoid would be greatly appreciate!

TIA :) Elisabeth

Re: IN Nestie moving - location recs?

  • St. Charles is a nice area, and there are a lot of newer homes out that way with larger plots of land than closer to St. Louis city. The St. Charles school district is also very good!

    Good luck in your search!

(p.s. My mom is a realtor in St. Louis - let me know if you need an agent!)

  • Hi Elisabeth!

I live in Saint Charles, and *LOVE* it.  I didn't think I would, but I like the area I live in, and I have a somewhat bigger house for the money comparatively speaking.  I *wouldn't* rule out the IL side because I know quite a few people on this board live over there like where they live alot. Union MIssouri sounds a little further out than i'd like -- where is your DH going to work? That might be something to look into, Saint Louis is pretty spread out.   Saint Louis has alot of private schools as well, are you looking to enroll children into the public or private school sector? *FOR THE MOST PART* in our area, Most of the schools are pretty good -- (minus the city schools and a handful of the public schools). Being in education I could rattle off my preferred school districts, but if you wanted I could email you later about it.

feel free to email me, lilmufish at hotmail dot com, i'd be happy to help you out in any way that I can.  I know there are also some realators on this board (or folks who work for them) so I know any of them can help you out as well :)

    Good luck :)

  • I wouldn't move to Union; its very far out and the school districts aren't as good.  I live in O'Fallon which is in St Charles county and I like it a lot.  Not sure what your price range is, but 2 acres might be a little pricey in this area.  How far are you willing to commute?

Springfield and Rolla are way too far away, about 2-3 hours away.

I don't know a thing about IL so sorry :)

  • I'll disagree with the pp about Union.  I went all my life in the school district and have no complaints.  If you want to buy a few acres, I'd check out Franklin County (Union is the county seat).  We bought 6 acres a few years ago just west of Union and paid about $7,000/acre.  Plus, it's only about 45 minutes from downtown St. Louis.  I don't consider that to be too far, but I've never been used to being able to get to downtown in 15 minutes.  Lots of people commute from Franklin County to the city everyday.

Where would your husband be working?  Union is 10 minutes away from Washington, which is the largest town in the county, about 15,000 people.

Can I be nosy and ask where the job is?  If not, that's ok.  If you have any questions about Union, you can email me mjberron@sbcglobal.net

  • We've lived in Eureka for 3 years, which is about 15 minutes east of Union, and think this is the best town ever!  The St Louis area is full of lots of different suburbs - and nothing against St Charles county, but we decided to go someplace that was not quite as populated and built up.  Eureka has a little less than 10K people and is a nice combo of city and town.  What really made our decision was that we could live in the country, have a few acres, be in a fantastic school district (AAA rated Rockwood) but still be less than 10 minutes away from the grocery store; plus, we can get into the city proper in around a half hour.  Most of Eureka is in STL county, and the property taxes are higher, but there is a segment that is still Eureka but in Jefferson County, and the taxes are much lower.

We actually have out house on the market right now to move to another home in Eureka.  The link below is a group of houses that are in Eureka but still in Jefferson County, so have the lower taxes.  Page me or email if you need more info!  Good luck!

  • Hi ladies, thank you for the answerd. we have awhile before we move -- MH needs to find a job still -- so I am just trying to get an idea right now. I shouldnt say we decided to not live in IL, MH doesnt want to becauseof his believes -- I just find his gun usage annoying. He also likes his space so 2 acres is minimum. I however like to live close to conveniences :) Ideally we would carpool and be no more than 30min, but MH currently drives 45min to another 'burb in Indy. For schools, I would def. count on elem. .school but we will prob move to a diff house or somewhere else by jr. high. I will send out some emails this evening when I have time :) Elisabeth
