We are having a crowd for next Sunday's games.....don't know what to serve....something different is good. Not into pizza or wings.
Re: Favorite Game Day menus?
we have a house full every saturday! Things that seem to work well for us is to have one main dish that people can plate themselves, and is easy to keep warm, and then surround it with snacks.
We always have chips, salsa, queso, and a veggie tray
For the main meal my faves are:
fajitas or brisket tacos
pulled pork
chili (with or without hot dogs)
deli tray with meat, cheese, rolls
we went to watch the game at a friend's house today. when we got there, they had an antipasto out along with cheese, crackers, chips and dip. they grilled steaks and had a potato and broccoli bake and a green salad. it was great game food!
I agree with pp, it's so much easier to have snacks and one main dish that people can serve up themselves. For the Superbowl last year, we did chili and beer bread that we kept warm, and a small deli tray that was fine served cold.
Dips and chips are good noshing food, and you can't go wrong with a veggie platter. My mom sometimes makes a pasta salad for game days, just to have a cold side and/or healthier option.
We almost always serve the same thing for game day because it's requested by H's friends.
This is what we serve:
-Chili with cheese served on the side
-Cornbread
-Kielbasa with honey mustard
-Veggie Platter with veggie dip
-Buffalo chicken dip with tostitos or Salsa and guacamole with tostitos
-Spinach and artichoke dip with pita bread
Here's the chilli recipe if you're interested:
Slow-Cooked Chunky Chili:
1lb ground beef
1lb bulk pork sausage
4 cans (16oz each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
2 cans (14-1/2 oz each) diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cans (10z each) diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper chopped
1 envelope taco seasoning
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
In a skillet, cook beef and sausage over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5 qt slow cooker. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or until the vegetables are tender. Yield 3 quarts (12 servings)
