Traveling with a baby

Anyone here flown with an infant before? DH has a training he has to attend in Florida at the end of Oct for 2 weeks, and DD and I are going to try to join him, as long as her passport comes in time. She'll be about 2 months then. I've traveled on the train/car here in Japan with her, but not by plane. Anyone have tips, tricks, suggestions?

I haven't personally, but when I nannied sometimes mom would take her with her on business trips. Her mom said it was much easier flying with her young than it was as she got older. Good luck!

Yes, 2 months old is MUCH easier.  Your flight is longer than I've ever been on though - my longest was 4 hours.  I had everything individually packed - like ziploc bags with 2 diapers/a few wipes/diaper changing felt cloth thing so I could grab and go to the bathroom with just that instead of the whole big bag.  The bathroom is tiny for changes.  I also individually packed outfits in case of leaks/spills/etc. so I could take her dirty outfit off, have just the new outfit with me and put the dirty outfit in the ziploc right then and pop it back in the big bag when I sat down.  Also if she takes a paci then have a clip to attach it to her clothes.  Mine kept throwing her paci out, then wanting it back and sometimes when she threw it out it went on the floor and sometimes it hit someone!  Oops!    I also take the stoller/carset up to the gate and check it when I board instead of at the luggage check - this way you don't have to carry her the whole time before the flight.  They are usually really nice about this.  I would take her to the pedi for an ear check too - I doubt she would have an ear infection, but if she screams bloody murder at least you will have some idea that her ears might be hurting her.  Good luck and have fun

I did Infant in lap on a trip to Birmingham when he was 4 months old.  I used the Boppy so he could sleep and I could have hands-free.  I also had to nurse in the airport and on the plane. I brought our stroller and used it in the airport to push him and help carry bags - you do plane-side check (it's very easy).
