Poll: Best weekend getaway in Wisconsin

I'm starting to research some places in Wisconsin that would make for a great weekend getaway.  DH works in retail so things are getting ready to get crazy at work for him and I thought surprising him with a mini-vacation, something in Jan/Feb when he has time again.

I want to make sure there's something for us to do that he'll like, wherever we go.  He's not into snowmobiling, skiing, ice skating...so that's the tough part when planning a winter getaway!  He likes sports, brewery's, winery's, history.

I'm interested in hearing what secret gems you might be able to share with me.  Oh, and I'm not interested in the Dells...Big Smile

TIA!

  • Where in Wisconsin do you live?  Since he's not into snowmobiling or skiing or anything like that, and it will be super cold, I'd honestly recommend just doing a Milwaukee weekend.  Lakefront Brewery tour, Bucks game, hit up a couple of museums, have a couple of nice dinners.  If you're already in Milwaukee, I'd think that a Chicago weekend might be fun.

You could do a spa weekend at The American Club in Kohler.  It's pretty spendy, but it's supposed to be fab.

  • We did a bed n breakfast getaway a few years ago in Feb up in Door County.  It was nice, but also a non-busy time up there, so not everything is open.

I've heard Kohler is nice, also Sundara Spa in the Dells...or Lake Geneva (never been to any of these places).

I think a Milw. weekend would be fun, or even Chicago.

  • Not sure, we always find it dificult to get away in the winter.  I like the PP's suggestion of going to Milwaukee for a nice get-a-way.  Not sure if you are into the "holidays" or not but I am sure its pretty during the season!
Not sure what direction we are headed. Either way, I am up for the ride.
