Suggestion for charities in PDX?
My book club I'm in at work is planning our Christmas get-together and this year rather than a small gift exchange we want to use the money we would have spent on that ($10-15 per person) to put toward goods for a charity or people in need like a battered woman's shelter. Does anyone have an idea of a good one? We'd ideally like to buy the goods they need, rather than a monetary donation.
Re: Suggestion for charities in PDX?
That's awesome you've decided to donate rather than give gifts! So many centers in Portland could use items donated. We have tons of volunteers in this city, but need more items to help people.
If you want to specifically aim towards a woman-focused group you can donate to Raphael House. They can always use household items and women's and children's clothes.
I've worked with Operation Night Watch, and they are a very small charity and could use anything. Men's socks (new), men's jackets/sweatshirts (new or like-new). Also razors, travel-size soap, shampoo, body wash, deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and any kind of over-the-counter Tylenol-type drugs.
PM me and I can give you more info!
