something new to be nervous about

So I was told today that I was high risk and I'm slightly confused on what will happen next.

I have always had Hemoglobin SC which is a form of Sickle Cell but not really Sickle Cell (only some of my cells are sickle shape and I have never had any issues at all.) This time my midwife just called to tell me that they had to transfer me to a high risk dr because my test results came back that I had actual Sickle Cell. They said that it was too high risk for them to care for me.

I don't really know what that means for the pregnancy as I had no problems last time. I guess I just have to wait for the dr. to call me with info on my next appt. I'm kinda nervous, just because of the unknown.

Thanks for listening...

  • Thoughts and prayers for you!
  • Sorry to hear about that. I do believe though that sometimes too much info is a bad thing. You know your body was able to hand one healthy pregnancy - no reason to think you can't do it again. Thoughts and prayers with you.

This exactly. You will be in the best care with a high risk OB. They will watch your pregnancy very closely(including being able to see your LO on u/s sooner than the 20w standard one)

From my past experience with a high risk OB....I can say, do your research and be your own advocate. While they do watch you very closely, which is GREAT...they often times want you to go through uneccessary procedures just to CYA. Go with your gut and your motherly instinct and you will make it through the next 8 months without any issues. Afterall....look at the cutie you guys made the first time around!!!

  • ((hugs)) I hope your doctor is just being super cautious!

  • Sorry to hear that... Did they test you for SC the first pregnancy?

I agree with everyone else... you have already produced a healthy, beautiful baby boy. Your body can handle this again....

I was with a high-risk doctor throughout my pregnancy. Sometimes the extra tests are a pain but at least you are under a more watchful eye.

  • So sorry you have something else to worry about.  Sad  I was high risk with both of my pregnancies.  Which perinatologist are you going to?
