Novice Questions about Roses

DH and I bought 4 rose bushes in August and have no clue how to care for them through the winter. We live in Cincinnati, Ohio so I'm wondering how to protect them against everything that winter brings.

I read in a post below that I should probably wait to prune them back until the end of winter/early spring so I'm thinking I just need to cover them.

TIA!

Re: Novice Questions about Roses

  • Google "rose care" and you should get some good info. I always prune mine in the fall (Oct/Nov), based on my dad's experience as King of the Roses.

I bought a rose in the fall a couple of years ago and created a cover for it that winter, but the rest of the roses I have came in the spring, and I haven't done much with them other than make sure they have some good mulch around them and pruning them back in the fall. They've done fine (I'm in northeast PA).
