It's Official - Moving to Cleveland
My husband will be working for Eaton beginning 1/1/10 (and I graduate from my school program 12/18/09 - perfect timing...well, except for the holidays!).
We're excited to be moving to Cleveland.
We would love to rent a small house instead of an apartment so that we can get a dog. We would like to walk to restaurants/bars if that is an option. Does anyone have neighborhood suggestions?
TIA!

Re: It's Official - Moving to Cleveland
Since he is working for Eaton, that means his offices will be in Beachwood, right? I'd say Chagrin Falls would be perfect for you guys. It is a safe, good area and it is has a great downtown area. The schools are also excellent (noticed your ticker) so if you wanted to find a place to hunker down for awhile, Chagrin might be good for you.
I'd stay away from Little Italy if you want a dog (small apartments). Coventry's rental stock is for the most part apartments or duplex's.
I would look closer to the Cedar/Lee area in Cleveland Heights (walking distance to bars, restaurants, etc.) or just east a little in University Heights (walking distance to target, whole foods, etc.). Chagrin Falls is a great little town, but anything walking distance to the main street is going to be very $$. Cleveland Heights/University Heights have a lot great houses or duplexes for rent that would let you have a dog and prices are very reasonable. We just bought a house on Eaton that is just across the University Heights border and we're 1 mile from Cedar/Lee and a little less than that from Whole Foods.
I would suggest looking on Craigslist. There are a ton of postings there for places to rent. Just put Cleveland Heights or University Heights in the search line. One suggestion, unless you're near Coventry, stay south of Cedar.
We looked at a ton of places to rent before we decided to buy (and then looked at a ton more houses) so if you have any specific questions on streets or specific places you're considering, feel free to email me: caw30@case.edu. I'd be happy to help you out.
HTH!
I live in university heights and LOVE it. Its a great location. Be prepared for the weather though-it will be really cold when you move up
Welcome!
Hey, we're pretty close! I'm in Shaker.
I am from New England and have only spent a year in TX, but I am still scared of how cold it's going to be when we arrive 1/1-ish
Thanks!
Ditto the Cleveland Heights suggestion, especially the Cedar/Lee and Coventry areas. There are some cute houses on side streets in both areas that are right off the main drags where all the bars / restaurants are.
If you're still in young-couple-with-no-kids-who-still-go-out-a-lot mode, I don't recommend Chagrin Falls. It's charming, and very walkable, but it's very family-oriented -- you'll be walking to charming shops and restaurants that close at 10:00. But if you have kids or are planning to soon, Chagrin Falls is perfect.
welcome to our fair city!
i moved to Chagrin Falls recently after living in Westlake for years, and it's absolutely beautiful, with a picturesque downtown complete with Starbucks by the falls. however, Cleveland Heights/University Heights are much closer to fun areas like Little Italy (my fave Cleveland 'hood), University Circle - so fun in the summertime, downtown...and from dt you're just a bridge away from Ohio City and Tremont, which have tons of great bar/restaurants.
anyway, best wishes for your relocation, let me know if you have questions or need help with anything, and Happy New Decade.
Will he be in Beachwood like someone mentioned? There are offices downtown, I know they were looking at moving but wasn't sure if that was official. Lakewood is good for walking to things and renting houses. Would be a nasty commute to Beachwood tho if that's where he'll be working.
