wedding band/e-ring soldering

i am considering getting my e-ring and wedding band soldered, for a few reasons.

- i was told it would fit a little snugger and right now, my rings are about 1/4 size too big

- supposedly it will help make it stronger and last longer. i have milgraine the whole way around both bands and this will also help them wear at the same rate/position

-its driving me crazy when my channel setting of my wedding band doesnt match up with the diamonds on my e-ring band.

do any of you regret getting this done or have any downfalls to doing this?

Re: wedding band/e-ring soldering

  • I have mine done and I really like having the rings soldered together. All for the reasons you named above.

  • I got mine soldered together maybe 3 months after our wedding, so it's a little less than 4 years since it's been done...no regrets.  We had my band custom made so it would sit flush up against my e-ring, but that still didn't keep it in place and I was getting annoyed having to constantly readjust them so they'd sit right.  I too was worried that the constant shifting would wear them down.  My jeweler didn't offer any reason not to solder them, so we did it and I like that it's just one ring now.  One downsize is that you can never just wear your band alone, and I thought this would bother me, but so far it hasn't been an issue.  We discussed buying me just a thin plain band, but haven't felt the need to do that yet.

I think soldering them together may help you with your size issue too...I know that thicker/wider banded rings fit more snug than thinner banded rings and doing this will essentially create a thicker/wider ring.

  • Ditto PP's concern that you can never just wear one.  I work with my hands a lot (I'm a physical therapist) and often will take my e-ring off at work, and wear just the band.  I personally didn't want to have to take the whole shabang off all at once, and have a "naked" left hand.

The other conern I had was that my e-ring was from Kay, and we got an extended warranty on it, but the band is from Macy's, so Kay said that soldering the two rings would void the warranty, since they couldn't take responsibility for the Macy's ring.

If neither of these are concerns to you, I would totally go for it!  If it weren't for these two things, I would have had it done right away!

  • I didn't solder mine because I liked the idea of being able to wear just my wedding band by itself (I deliberately picked a band that I'd like by itself, so I ended up with an eternity band), and I *do* wear it that way often.

I adore my ering, and wear it a great majority of the time, but I prefer the flexibility of wearing just one if I want to... but then, I'm terrible at making decisions, so a permanent decision like this probably wouldn't be a good idea for me in the first place. Wink

Same for me too.  I have an eternity band that I like wearing by itself so soldering isn't an option for me.  I do wear my wedding band by itself and I like having that option.

  • I would want to be able to wear them seperately.  Ever since I had my baby, I hardly ever wear my e-ring, because I'm afraid I will scratch her - it's princess in a prong setting.  But I still wear my wedding band.
