BS Nursing degree/Recommend your college
Can anyone recommend some colleges for nursing? I would prefer to get my Bachelor's since I already have my Associates degree in Radiology.
TIA
Re: BS Nursing degree/Recommend your college
I received my BS and now a full time graduate student at UIC. I've been very pleased with my programs but since that's the only place I attended I have no basis of comparison. One advantage there is that it's a state school so tuition will be considerably lower than at private colleges.
I just finished my BSN from St. Xavier this May. I was really happy with the program overall and I feel that it really prepared me well for the "real world". As a bonus, St. Xavier graduates have really high NCLEX pass rates, which is an important factor to consider when choosing a nursing school. My class of 50 people actually had a 100% first time NCLEX pass rate!
Tuition was expensive, but most hospitals will give you a pretty generous sign-on bonus. Mine was 10 grand, which helps with student loans.
One more note, most nursing programs in Chicago are pretty competitive, so make sure you know how long the waiting list usually is, and how many classes you have to take there before you can start the nursing program.
Good luck!!!
