Liz, Vt2b, Soter, and others...

(I just wrote this HUGE post to you and the nest lost it. Grr... trying again!)

After being home for two weeks with Henry I wanted to write and share some things that were beyond helpful to me. I know that each baby and each mommy are different, but wanted to share incase you find these things helpful too!

*MY MOM. I didnt think that I would want/need help after coming home, but my mom had planned to stay with us for 3 nights. Thank goodness she did! She cooked, cleaned, shopped, took the dog for a walk, and rocked Henry while I napped. She helped in the middle of the night and all day. I am so thankful to have had her here (so is DH!).

*Lanolin cream if you are breastfeeding - I have some in everyroom. My nipples still hurt like hell and I use this all the time. It really helps!

*A LC's # - my breast hurt and were HUGE when my milk came in. So huge that Henry would not nurse. I had to express into a spoon and give it to him. Poor baby was so upset trying to nurse, and inturn I was too. I talked to lots of lcs who were GREAT. I keep them on speed dial because support is what you need.

*Pads - no one told me how much and for how long I would bleed. I now have stock in Kotex.

*Diapers - We got 9 packs for our baby shower. A friend laughed with me and said " I hope that you dont expect these to last a long time". I laughed thinking "at least 2 months". They're gone. You use A LOT! Stock up! Also - I bought and registered for 7th Generation wanting to go green and support the local company, but I am giving them away, they are too small (and my baby is only 7lbs), dont stay closed and dont hold much. Too bad.

That's it! All your baby needs is you (and DH) for food, warmth and love. We have 100's of things that we got for our shower that we have never used and might never. Henry needs diapers, clothes, and me. I need dh's (and family's) support, love, and a lot of food. And patience. But even at 3AM, when Henry is hungry and tired and upset, and Dh is trying to sleep, but waking up to offer support, things are great. I love Henry's cry and know that I can give him what he needs, I may just need to try a few things. You all will do GREAT!

Page me on this board if you EVER need anything, advice, someone to vent to, or chat with. I know that I took advantage of the nest, friends, and family to get through 3 hard weeks.

One more note.... my love for my DH has grown 100 fold. I am amazed at how much I lean on him and how much I love watching him as a Daddy. It takes my breath away.

I have to run now... Henry slept through me writing this twice. Not bad! :)

Ill try to attch a pic!

:~)

  • Good to know! Thanks!
  • My goodness is your little guy cute!  Good work on him! : )

Thanks for the tips.  My husband and I are pretty sure that we don't want family around for the first few days so that we can find our own rhythm.  I'm curious to see it that changes.  Good tip on the diapers.  I'm sure we'll go through our small stash in just a week or so but hesitate to buy more until we know how big the baby is...

As for me, I'm just under 2 weeks from my due date and hoping for the little one to arrive soon!  I've been having some contractions since noon but not sure if it'll measure up to anything..I guess we'll see...hope to join you in mommy-land soon!! : )

  • Thank you so much for posting. I am being careful about not getting to caught up in buying stuff and taking things people are giving away. I am finall okay with saying no if it is something I don't think I will use. I will stock up on diapers and pads! Keep updating us on how you guys are doing. I love hearing the details. He is such a cutie!
