Ok Ladies, I need some ideas. We had company this weekend and they told us while they were here that they are expecting their first child in December. This is one of my best friends, and I really want to do something for her RIGHT NOW just to show that we are very excited for them and thinking about them etc...
Do you all have any ideas? My mom is a professional diaper cake designer, so diaper cakes are out Also she doesn't know if it is a boy or a girl yet (though on early ultrasounds it DID look a lot like a boy).
Anyway it can be ideas for mother & father, Mother and Baby, Baby only, etc. I know she's already gotten a couple diaper bags and some picture frames.
I look forward to your suggestions!
Re: Baby Gift Ideas
My answer to any kind of baby/marriage announcement is to attempt to get crafty. Over the last 6 years, anytime any of my girlfriends have gotten married or had a baby, I've gone to Hobby Lobby or Michaels or AC Moore (etc) and picked out a stitch pattern that suits them and their styles and framed it after it was done. It can be a fairly easy task and it's something that not alot of people do or give as gifts anymore so that makes it more special.
1 of these gals has moved 3 times in the last 2 years and every time they do, the Eyeore (sp) stitch I did for her daughter is the 1st thing that goes up in J's room.
Other than that, there's a number of crafty things you could do-family trees of Mom, Dad and new baby, OR on the non crafty side, maybe a GC for a maternity massage session at a nice spa or something.....
HTH.
Thanks for the ideas! I used to cross-stitch as a kid but I haven't in yars... maybe I'll pick that up again. I also crochet, but that seems cliche to make a baby-blanket. I started looking at places in their area that do prenatal massages, and also looked at maybe getting her a maternity pillow. I like your crafty ideas though! Thanks!
Anyone else?
how about prenatal yoga? keeps you flexible, tones muscles, and improves balance and circulation, with little impact on your joints. It also helps you learn to breathe deeply and relax, which is essential for labor, birth, and motherhood. You can either try to find one in the area (and buy her a couple of sessions or get her a disc she can do at home like:
Sara Holiday's Prenatal Yoga: Second Trimester and Third Trimester and Prenatal Yoga: A Complete Home Practice for a Healthy Mother and Baby. Both are developed to give a thorough workout with different levels of difficulty and without putting undue strain on the mother.
OR
Put together a spa kit. Fill it with lavender scented items such as shower gel, foot soak, stretch mark cream, and massage oil. Throw in a scrubbing bath glove, lavender filled eye mask, lavender candle, and herbal teas. a relaxing CD and you have a kit to help ensure evenings of relaxation for mommy-to-be.
Also, a pregnancy journal could be a good idea...not neccessarily a baby book (where you chart milestones and such) but a journal for her to write her feelings, her symptons and her excitement and baby can read it when they are grown and planning a family of their own
