Cook County Marriage License
Hi Everyone! I just got back from my honeymoon! The pastor sent back the marriage liscense signed. So I sent it back in the envelope with a check for the amount needed for some copies. Once I get it back, what is the first thing I should do? I feel like this name change is a lot more complicated than I thought it would be! Any input would be great!
Thanks!
Re: Cook County Marriage License
I went and did my DL first, then my SS card, then my passport, and shortly after all of my bank accounts, credit cards, school and medical records, work stuff, etc.
It wasn't hard, there is just a lot to do (and things I never thought of before) and its sort of a pain.
Just check the various websites to make sure you have the correct documentation/forms before you go. This speeds up the process drastically. I brough multiple copies of the marriage certificate with me, my old passport (since it got changed last) my old DL and SS cards, and my birth certificate. I also brought a copy of my lease but I never needed it.
The DMV only asked for my old DL and the marriage cert. The SS office wanted to see my old SS card (I'm not sure what you'd do if you lost your old one) and my DL (new one), the marriage cert, and I also showed them my old passport. The passport office wanted me to mail an original or a certified copy of the marriage cert and the old passport with the form. If you passport is less than one year old there is no fee to change you name. Older than one year is a different form and the renewal fee. They send all your documents back to you.
The bank, school and med records, and my credit cards (as well as cell phone, landline, and utility companies) all had different rules so unfortunately, that was the worst part of it. Just find out what their requirements are.
