JCam

Hey do your dogs get ticks often?  Luka has got two this week!  I am not sure if it is a seasonal thing??? When we had Yuri he got one maybe once every couple of months.  It just seems strange.

Re: JCam

  • Well.. this isn't really a yes or no for me haha. So here comes my long answer:

Billy used to get them like crazy. We were using Frontline, so we switched to Advantix. He stopped getting them. Then we forgot two months in a row and what do you know, it was the only time he got a tick that whole summer, and he got lyme disease. Awesome!

Gracie I don't think has ever had any though.

Now here's the part where I publicly admit to being a HORRIBLE puppy parent: we have forgotten to give it to them for the past three months. BUT they haven't gotten any ticks ::knocks on wood::

  • *butting in*  My Gracie got a couple of ticks in the Spring, regardless of her Frontline. She hasn't had a single one since (knock on wood!)

But I also believe, although it may be entirely in my brain because I can't remember at the moment why I'm thinking it, that after the first frost, you don't really see ticks all winter.

Definitely not true, unfortunately. Make sure to keep giving the meds all year. I swear I will remember to get theirs today!! Hehe

    ** butting in also **

I remembered to apply Simon's before I left for work yesterday... and forgot to tell my husband... poor guy shoved his face right in it when he got home from work yesterday. Oops.

OMG did he have a reaction to it!?! DH and I got it on our faces once by accident (yes we were BOTH dumb enough to do it at the same time hahaha). Both of us got all tingly where we got it on us.. I am now very very very careful not to get it on myself!

  • Not that I'm aware of! He survived! I put Simon's cheap collar on him to remind myself but forgot to pass the message on to the hubs. Oops!

It's such a pain to deal with... I always try to plan around weather and our plans. If he's going to be playing with other dogs, I tend to wait til after that is done with. The hardest is the winter with the snow and making sure it doesnt get washed away when he's outside.

  • I put the advantix on Luka on Tuesday.  Hmmm.  The thing is that when we had Yuri we always saw them right away because his skin was so short and were able to remove them before they burrowed in.  The two ticks I found this week were in deep.  I feel so bad for this little guy because I know how much they hurt.
