lavender in Iowa

Is there anything that I have to do to my lavendar plants to make sure they come back next year? Do I need to cut it back at all (it isn't very big)?

I live in zone 5A.

Re: lavender in Iowa

  • When I lived in MD, my lavender plants survived a 3-foot snowfall without me so much as looking at them.

  • I'm in Zone 5 and never had a problem with lavender coming back.  Heck, my parents couldn't kill theirs if they tried (and they did).
  • I hope not.  I live in southeastern NE, just planted my lavender this August so it's pretty new.  I haven't done much, it is supposed to be pretty hardy for the plant types that I bought.  I have put some grass clippings around the plants though.
