advice please!

We just moved into a wonderful house with not-so-wonderful landscaping in the front yard.  The beds in front of the house consist several different kinds of sporadically spaced evergreen shrubs (some pretty sparse), and TONS of lily turf.  Lots of blank spaces in between everything.  My question is this:

Do I have to pull those shrubs, or can I just start to fill in with plants that I like, and hope that it starts to blend?  I don't want a super symmetrcial look, but don't want it to look odd.  The house was built in 1981, so I'm pretty sure the shrubs are exactly as old as me, which would make them a real pain to get out.

 Thanks for any advice!

Re: advice please!

  • Is there any way you could post a few pics? It would really help.

You'll find great advice on this board, but it's difficult to offer suggestions sight-unseen.

  • I don't have any pics, but I'll try and put a few up when I do.  I guess it would be more helpful than my rambling description :)
