salon rave :)

so i tried out that salon that i asked about a week or so ago...they are an all 'natural' salon and i am SOO excited. i went yesterday to have my hair dyed light brown instead of the blonde that i've been sporting (i'm naturally dirty blonde but had all over blonde highlights and i was getting sick of them and wanted it closer to my natural color)

well...the guy who did my hair actually CARED...and took his time...something i dont think i've ever experienced at a salon. like when i told him what i wanted, he got color swatches and played around with them against my hair for like 10 minutes figuring out what was best...and when he washed my hair he made sure to get any excess dye off my ears, etc...maybe this stuff seems dumb, but seriously,i have had my hair dyed so many times at salons where they were just trying to move as fast as possible to get me in and out, ya know?

he even pampered me by putting a warm rice pouch thing (what are those called?) on my chest while washing my hair out.

and the best part....the dye line is all organic! i told him about how DH and I are super eco-friendly and about how i look at the ingredients in everything...so he showed me the ingredients in the dye and there was NO yucky stuff (ammonia, SLS, etc) that i could see. it was awesome :)

and as a bonus..he gave me a free bar of coconut/lime soap on my way out because i liked the smell :)

i love that portland is such an eco-friendly town!

here's the salon if anyone is interested: http://www.nurtureinspiredhair.com/

this is the hair dye they use: http://www.organiccolorsystems.com/

oh, and another cool thing...he didn't try to sell me the products he sells AT ALL. i told him all about gudonya too (natural shampoo/conditioner i buy from etsy) and he was impressed and was all excited to check out her etsy site :)

now...it was very expensive...but just as much as i paid at the aveda salon i went to when i first moved here..and i was SO much more impressed with the experience and the result at this salon. plus, he did WAY more work than at the other salon..so i didn't care that it was expensive. i was there for 4 hours..but that was because i had such blonde hair and he was being super careful with the dye the cover up all of the blonde...and then he gave me a cut with long layers :)

i'll definitely be back, and i told him that i'd recommend the salon to all my friends, so that's what i'm doing! i went to alan, but i'm sure any of the others would be great (his wife is natalie, and they are co-owners)

Re: salon rave :)

  • That's great to hear! Did you get a cut, too?

I love places that don't push the products. I really hate that.

  • That's great. I actually just walked by there yesterday and wondered how your experience had been. I'll be interested to hear how the dye holds up...I've heard that a lot of the organic/natural dyes don't stay as long. And so great they didn't push products...I HATE that. Congrats on finding a good place!
