Vacationing in Myrtle Beach

I am a lurker who is vacationing in Myrtle Beach next week.  Are there must-see sites?  I haven't really visited in a while and don't know about the new tourist attractions.  Years ago, I used to go to the Pavilion, Briarcliffe Mall, and the 501 outlets, but those may have closed by now.  Any suggestions?  TIA!!!

Re: Vacationing in Myrtle Beach

  • The Pavilion closed a few years ago. Colonial Mall's still open though. There is a new Hard Rock Cafe Theme Park that just opened (in April I think).
DH's parents live in N. Myrtle so when we visit, we tend to stay somewhat north of Barefoot Landing and that area.
There are a few of the old favorites along with a few other new spots to visit.
    Have a great time!!!

  • I am in Myrtle Beach right now!  I hit the outlets today- Carters and Children's Place had some great deals.  We went to both the one on 501 and 17... the one on 501 was not that great, they are still building it, so the deals were not really deals.

Anyone have any suggestions for dinner?  We want to do seafood tonight and my Dad wants to do a buffet- are there any fresh good ones? If not, can you suggest a place that has good fresh stuff.

  • I haven't been since the early 90's except for a short trip with a friend in 2000 so I'm no help.  We're going for the first time in years over the 4th of July.

As previously stated, the Pavilion has closed, but there is a "Pavilion Nostalgia Park" at Broadway at the beach.  http://www.mbpavilion.com/

I know we're really going to miss the place, we always used to stay close and walk there most evenings.  It was nice cause you could walk around and buy a couple tickets and ride something if you wanted, but you didn't have to pay to get in etc...

We usually took a day to go to a waterpark while we were there, and we would go to a park with the grand prix race cars one evening.  Usually caught a couple rounds of put-put golf on nice nights too.

I don't know what kind of entertainment you like, but I am a huge fan of dueling piano bars.  I've never been but there is a Crocodile Rocks in MB.  Also if anyone in your family likes dinner theater there are a few to choose from... Dixie Stampede, Medieval Times, etc.

In 2000 we went to Barefoot Landing too and I enjoyed alking around and shopping there.

  • Sorry Wishin&hopin, are you still at the beach???  Our favorite seafood place is "Chesapeake House" on restaurant row.  It's not a buffet.  It was built in the 70's and it looks like it, but it's got that family charm ya know?  They bring out a fresh bread basket when you get to the table with fresh hushpuppies, yeast rolls, and cinnamon rolls.  My parents went to the beach in 05 and ate there and said it was as good as ever.
