yay, I'm hosting a wine and appetizer social
I am hosting wine and appetizer social next Saturday evening. I have about 6-8 girlfriends coming. I haven't sent out the details yet.
Does this sound ok?
Please bring a favorite bottle of wine to share and/or an appetizer. I will be providing a couple of wines and dessert.
Re: yay, I'm hosting a wine and appetizer social
Just my 2cents... as a guest, I'd prefer to just pick up a bottle of wine and have you take care of all the food. But that's just b/c I'm not great in the kitchen.
You know your friends best though.
Good luck. Sounds like a fun night!
I attended a wine festival this weekend and i am raving about Horton cellars
they have a new chocolate dessert one XOCO it's amazing at only $16 bucks...Good luck with your party..I'd offer to have the appetizers...and have everyone bring a bottle to share
If you go that route, expect to get a dozen bottles of wine and maybe 1 appetizer. I think you should be absolutely clear as to what you need. Personally, I'm not a fan of asking guests to bring anything, but if you do, I'd ask each guest to bring a bottle of wine and I'd take care of the food, myself.
Since you're inviting people over, I'd take care of the food. Bringing a bottle of wine and an appetizer is a lot to ask of a guest.
I tried that one a couple weeks ago, too, and it was great. I had tried one from Cooper Vineyards, and I thought the Horton one was much better.
And I agree with pps...ask your friends to bring wine, and you provide the food. This is how I did our wine tasting last year and it was great. Also, I'd make little cards so that your friends can keep track of what they tried and what they liked.
In my group of friends we have done wine parties a couple of ways - guests bring wine from a specific region and often a speicifc type (red, white, sparkling), so the host can pair foods well. Or guests choose any wine, but they need to bring along something that will pair with it, the host will provide some additional food
Both are VERY successful. You know your friends and know what they will likely provide. But if you are like us, there is always a ton of great food (too much even) and wine and everyone is having a great time hanging out.
I've done a wine & cheese party before, with 20-30 people, and asked everyone to bring a favorite wine and/or cheese to share. I provided the crackers / bread / bit of fruit and cured meats. I also had a couple extra bottles of wine and some extra cheese in case were were unbalanced, but to be honest, it worked out perfectly. Most couples brought both a wine and cheese and I didn't have to dig into my reserve of wine or cheese.
With an appetizer, it's a little more work than simply picking up cheese at the store. If you do ask that guests bring an appetizer, I'd have extra cheese & crackers or extxra frozen appetizers (i.e. spanokopita) that can be thrown in the oven in case you're lacking.
