Organic vegetable garden rodent repellants?
I went to my local Armstrong Garden Center today and was astounded by the high price for repellants. They wanted $20 for a small jar of "rodent repellant" or whatever it's called. Ingredients are black pepper oil and cayenne pepper. Can't I just buy a HUGE container of both, mix them in oil, and sprinkle around the perimeter of my garden, for much cheaper than would be around $200 (monthly) of their brand? TIA.
Re: Organic vegetable garden rodent repellants?
I don't think you need to mix w/ oil. Just sprinkle ground black pepper & cayenne around. You'll need to reapply after rain or watering though.
What kind of rodents do you have? I've found it easier to plant things that my local bunnies & squirrels don't like.
Honestly, I read the fine print from that pepper rodent repellant today and it said not to use on edible gardens. Maybe b/c the veggies will become very peppery? Not sure why. Still willing to try it, though, don't want to ruin my crops. I'm returning that $20 tiny bottle and think I'll get the pepper at a large warehouse like Costco or Smart & Final.
We have skunks, raccoons, opossums, squirrels/chipmunks (not sure which), neighborhood cats, coyotes and probably more:) Joy!
