What a whirlwind of a trip! Phew, I'm exhausted and ready to sleep really well tonight.
Saturday I ran my work fundraiser/walk (thank you to all of you who donated!) and then K and I headed to the airport. After enjoying a dinner in with our friends we walked around Washington for a few hours. Our friends live about 2 blocks from the Capital and it was a beautiful night out.
Sunday morning we got up bright and early. We walked through the Eastern Market and then headed to the White House for a tour of the west wing. OMG! We stood in the oval office (ok, well the doorway, but still, our heads were in the oval office)!! We saw the Cabinet Room and the Roosevelt room as well. It was really one of the coolest things ever. The general public doesn't get to tour this part of the white house which of course added an extra special feeling. We even got to go to the news room. Oh and we stood in the Rose Garden too and saw where the president comes out and makes his speeches.
After the tour we went to the start of the March and enjoyed the view of thousands of happy and proud LGBTA community members. We had to take a few bathroom breaks along the route but we arrived at the Capital near the front of the March. We grabbed a spot on the lawn and listened to the rally. Some speakers were better than others, Julian Bond and Cleve Jones stood out as the seasoned professionals that they are. The rally was too long and lost momentum but it was still nice. Cynthia Nixon and Lady Gaga gave nice, brief speeches. I teared up throughout the day.
I mean, how incredibly cool is it that I live in a nation where in a matter of a day I can stand in the doorway of the Oval Office and then go out and protest the federal government and the President that sits in that very office? I'm so thankful that K and I went to DC this weekend. It might be hard to understand if you've never been to a large rally but it really feels like one of the most important things I've done. Plus K loved the fact that I was feeling the baby - she says she's going to have a little radical on her hands - lol!
After the rally we went to dinner and met up with TWB. She is adorable and sweet and as great in person as she is online! We snapped a quick picture, so if she doesn't mind I'll post it later. More photos on my FB page if anyone cares :-p

I commented on some of your pictures on facebook... but I love them all! I'm so glad that you got to go, and that it was such a great experience.
As an aside: did you hit your fundraising goals?

I'll know tomorrow. I left the money with our CFO and ran out of town. I get to count it tomorrow :-) I'm going to be really happy if we hit last years' numbers which is a little less than our goal but still great considering the economic downturn. I'll let you know tomorrow! ::fingerscrossed::
Two*True-- Aww, thanks, you are so sweet! It was GREAT to meet you; I had so much fun hanging out with you! Sylvia was sad that she missed meeting you and K.
You're welcome to post the pic if you'd like-- I don't look my best, but after all it was past my bedtime (lol-- at 9:00 pm!).
For those of you who haven't yet met Two*True, she is as awesome in person as she is online!
