Who do you implicitly trust with your hair?

I'm dying to do something new.  Pixie cut, maybe?  Who knows!  I don't really care as long as I like it.  Smile  I haven't had my hair cut in about a year.

Generally, I walk in for my appointment and tell my stylist to do whatever they want.  But this only works with people you "know" and trust, and I don't know anyone here I'd be willing to let do that.  I'm not looking to have my hair colored, unless you know of a reputable place that does henna.

I don't care where they're at, and I don't care how much it costs as long as I'm guaranteed to have a fabulous cut when I leave.

Oh, and does anyone know of a good place that does eyebrow threading?

Re: Who do you implicitly trust with your hair?

  • What about that place that Daisy posted? They seem really cool.

And very few peeps can pull off a pixie cut. However-YOU my dear, are one of them. I think a shaggy, choppy pixie on the slightly longish, layered side would look fabulous on you.  The one I'm thinking of for you would take some maintenence though-you'd probly have to get it cut at least every 4 weeks to keep it up.

If that doesnt sound like too much, i say GO FOR IT!!!

You think I can do it?  I'm nervous!  I love Winona Ryder's pixie cut right now.  It's definitely my favorite celebrity style.  Do you have a picture of the one you're thinking about?

I also really love Ashley Green's hair in Twilight, but it's longer.

I think daisy's salon looks awesome, and I'm definitely open to trying them.  But did they actually cut her hair (did they daisy?  or did they just color?)?

I just want to go someplace that I know won't totally screw it up.  I'm easy to please when it comes to my hair because it always grows back.  I just don't want it to look horrendous if I'm going so short and will have to wait for it to grow back, KWIM?

  • Like this, only not the color. And they really amped up the texture here, but you get the idea:

  • That is cute!  I wonder if it's long enough that I'd end up straightening it every day, though . . .
  • Hmmm, well if you like it, maybe print it out and bring to stylist and ask about maintenance. I think most short cuts need some daily maintenance though. If youre lucky, you can just tousle with pomade every morning, but that depends on the texture of your hair to begin with.

  • I absolutely love my stylist Dannielle, she's in Sellwood at Novare Salon, it's on 17th and Bybee-ish.  503-231-1713.  I've been going to her for about a year, she's cut and colored my hair every 5-8 weeks since last november, and it has always been perfect.  We've changed it up a few times also, and she's always done a great job.

If I were you, I would arrange for a "consultation" with a few different stylists.  This should be free, or less than $10 cost.  Then you can find one that you really click with, and go from there!

  • Oh, and I had super short hair (like that picture) before, and HATED it, because it's sooooo much maintenance.  I would have to wash it every day, then use 3-4 different products to get it to stick out in certain places, and it was so annoying.  I ended up not fixing it every day, and I felt like I looked really sloppy on the days that I didn't "do" my hair.

So think about that too, before you cut it!!

I have thought about it, but right now my routine is to shower and pull my hair up in a messy bun or a ponytail while it's still wet.  I'm pretty sure I look sloppy all of the time, instead of just now and then.  I'll take the time to style my hair if it doesn't take a long time, so 20 minutes-ish.  But it's long enough now that drying it takes 15 minutes, and then I have to straighten it which takes me at least 20, and then I have to do whatever it is that I want to do with it.

Can I just shave it all off?

LOL!  I think you should do a consult, then find some pics you like, and ask the stylist how long it will take to do that every day with your hair.  Because right now you have the option to style it or throw in a ponytail, but if it's short, you don't have the option, you HAVE to do it.

    Good luck with your decision!!

  • Thanks!  I'll put Danielle and daisy's guy on my list.  : )  I might just suck it up and keep growing until I can donate to great lengths and then chop, chop, chop!
  • My go to for a perfect cut or to repair an imperfect cut is Nathan at Legends Salon on NW 21st. He takes a very long time and makes sure everything is just right.  I rarely go to him anymore since he's $50+ (he was $28 when I started going to him) but he's been doing an impeccable job for me for close to ten years and again I rarely go to him, I've tried so many other people and followed so many recommendations and yet he's still my absolute favorite.

I'll add him to my list!  I was hoping someone would say something like you did - that you've used him for a million years and he's always been great.  Thanks!  : )

  • Patti Green at green. Salon is fabulous. I've been going to her for probably 7 or 8 years or so. She takes her time but the end result is wonderful. She's amazing and just a really great person on top of it. Plus, her salon is just great. There are other stylists there, several of them from Salon 77 (which used to be one of the premeire salons in town).

  • I LOVE Katie Beckerly at Dosha Hawthorne.  I've been going to her since she was still at Aveda Institute - and she's my neighbor!  She really takes her time and makes sure you absolutely love it.

  • ahhhhhh i would 100% recommend going to the place i went to...and the guy. his name is alan at nurture salon. their products are all organic and have NO parabens, no plastics, and no SLS in them...which is why I love them. I used to like aveda salons, but I found out a lot of their products have sulfates and some have SLS and parabens.

seriously though, he was great. i was there for 4 hours and about an hour and a half of that was spent on my hair cut alone...he even admitted he was a perfectionist. he's SO nice and easy to talk to, and i had fun talking with him about our similar views on green living, etc. and, like i said before, he actually cared about what i told him i wanted, and if i liked it, etc. he even bought me a tamale (which was amazing) when the tamale lady came by with her cart! if you do go there, tell him i sent you..i always have this fear of people not remembering my name  though, so if he doesnt recognize my name, tell him i was just there and had my hair dyed light brown and forgot my glasses when i left :)

i don't know how expensive he is, because mine was expensive since i had total corrective coloring....he did three different colors (triple layer cake) on my head to cover up all of the blonde...and then a cut, so it was $200. I would call and ask how much hair cuts are...I'm guessing in the $40+ range.

and last of all...let me know if you go and how you like it!!!

ps - if anyone DOES know of a salon that does henna dyes, that would be great! the reason i spent so much to have corrective coloring is because i really dont want to dye my hair anymore..i want my natural color to grow out and the only time i want to use dyes after this is if it's 100% henna.

  • oh and ps - i think you would look SOOOOO cute in a pixie cut!!!

i'm making myself grow mine out for a least another 6 months, maybe even a year if i can stand it (used to have sort-of a pixie cut that i LOVED, then grew it out for the wedding)...i know once i cut it i'll never grow it out again, so i'm making myself wait as long as possible.

this is the cut i'm going to get, though..i've had it saved for YEARS and always go back to it because i love it:

  • Daisy that's CUTE!  I'll definitely get some consults done and see who I want to go with.  I'm glad I've got some options.  I think I'm going to keep growing my hair until it's 8" so I can donate it to Pantene.  In the meantime, I'll test drive some people while they trim my hair up and fix it a bit.  And then do the pixie cut once I know who I want to use.  : )
  • I see Chai at Bliss Salon.  I actually followed her from Dirty Little Secret but they closed.  She specializes in naturally curly hair though so I don't know if that would be a big help to you.

The one time I got my hair cut here was at DLS.  I went to Tina and liked her well enough.  I was sad they closed because I probably would have gone back and tried someone else.  : )
