SC Nestie needs help for Key West
Hey ladies
I was wondering if I could get some help. Considering going to Key West via Miami in December (first week or so). Any rec's for things to do, places to eat and drink? How's the drive from Miami to Key West? Thanks for any help!
Re: SC Nestie needs help for Key West
Key West is a lot of fun ... especially if it's not blazing hot. A few fun things are: Going to Mallory Square at sunset (lots of people watching, music, etc.), the Conch train tour which will take you around town and tell you about the history, and taking a ferry to the Dry Tortugas.
The drive from MIA to Key West is a bit long, but it's not that bad if you take a few stops along the way. You might want to stop at Holiday Isles or the No Name Pub (in Big Pine Key) ... there are a lot of Key deer around there.
It is about a 4 hr drive down to KW. There is only one road in and out, so depending if a busy week, can take a bit longer.
As for things to do, the Southernmost Point buoy is a must, and like pp said Mallory Square for sunset viewing. I love the Margaritaville there, but I'm biased... DH proposed there. Sloppy Joe's is also iconic for lunch/dinner. The Irish bar (forgot name, but starts with K) is lots of fun for drinking/hanging out.

Take your hubs to Hog's Breath Saloon. It's really popular place and guys really seem to like it, they always walk out with a t-shirt. Also, make sure you stop at Peppers of Key West. This is a place that is wall to wall hot sauces, they also have other things like cool marinades and mustards, but they are known for hot sauces. They have a bar that you sit around and just sample everything there. It's a lot of fun, especially if you like that stuff. Go shopping on Duval Street and make sure you stop into the Blond Giraffe for some key lime pie...the best! If you can stay, try to stay at one of the little B&Bs, they are so pretty and the houses are amazing inside.
Last, but not least, make sure to stop at the Hemingway House! It's really cool to see where he lived, they have a pretty gift shop with all of his books and pretty art work. Bonus, you get to see the 6 toed cats that live on the property. They are all decendants from his original cat and have full reign of the house. Have fun!
