Help with Halloween Party

This might be a dumb question but I'm having trouble deciding on what kinds of decorations to use for an upcoming Halloween party. There will be both kids and adults in attendance, probably more kids than adults. I'm thinking the decorations should be more child-oriented and cheesy (i.e. fun) if there will be a lot of kids. Usually, when I throw a Halloween party, it is for just adults and the decor is more adult-themed. This is the first year I am hosting a party with a lot of kids.?

What kinds of decor would you use for this kind of a Halloween party? ?

Re: Help with Halloween Party

  • I actually just went to a birthday party for a 5 year old with a Halloween theme. There was also many adults there. The decorations weren't scary or cheesy. They used lots of orange and black balloons, black streamers hanging halfway down the doorway. They made a giant spiderweb on the fireplace. Then they hung up wall clings and window clings of bats and skeletons and none of the kids were scared. If it were me, I would decorate more for the kids, as they will appreciate it more and if it is scary, they may not want to stay at the party. Have fun - I love the pics in your siggy!

  • You can also hollow out gourds to make tealight candle holders or hollow out medium sized pumpkins and put small mums/other fall plants in them for centerpieces.

  • I love the pics posted my Kim. Perfect!

My daughter is 7. We've been to Halloween parties or hosted them every year.  My experience - all kids love pumpkins. You can't go wrong with a pumpkin theme. I love the picture with the paper lanterns, b/c it seems elegant enough for adults and fun enough for kids. Some are afraid of witches and vampires. My daughter is still afraid of witches. I would try not to decorate with those, but everything else seems okay.

Kids also love glow-in-the-dark. Are you having a designated kid's area? You could do lots of glow in the dark decorations. They also love balloons.

Will there be kids under three years old? I only ask b/c many things are a choking hazard. My daughter never put things in her mouth, so I don't know at what age that would be a problem. I have just noticed on many party items that they say "Not for kids under 3. Choking hazard."  Again, those lanterns being out of reach seem perfect.

Have fun. We want to see pics once it's decorated.
