Well I just got back from the vet. The cat has a UTI, just like we suspected but they ran a few other tests to see if they could find an underlying cause. Now the vet thinks my cat has psychological issues causing her to stress. I can see that.
As for the dog...it appears the other vet (who couldn't see us today) misdiagnosed his ear mites last time. I'm not sure how you can do that but he has no signs of ever having mites and the vet we saw today thinks it is most likely an allergy. So we are doing a food allergy test first to see what happens and then if he's still showing signs, we'll do another allergy test.
Needless to say I'm a little annoyed at the other vet for misdiagnosing. Today's vet said the only way to truly diagnose is to look at what's in his ear in a scope or under a microscope and the other vet did neither. Just gave him a steroid shot and antibiotics. Todays vet said the steroid shot is probably just now wearing off and he's showing his symptoms again.
Re: $500 later...
I hope that your cat is feeling better.
Louie has severe food allergies and is allergic to dust. This is why I have to cook for him. It took a while for him to be diagnosed and he had a couple of mis-diagnoses as well. If you want to know everything we went through let me know. I don't want to bore you with all of the details unless you really want to hear.
Wow at least you know what is wrong with the cat and got meds to treat it.
But that's too bad your dog was misdiagnosed originally. Hopefully you can figure out what his allergies are and it won't be too inconvenient.
We were discussing dog foods last week on WC and someone mentioned Fromm's. We feed Xena Fromm's Whitefish and Potato, which our trainer had mentioned was good for sensitive tummies. Someone in last week's discussion also mentioned Fromm's Surf & Turf because it's a wheat-free food, I believe.
Good luck! I hope you don't have to switch to food you personally have to cook! Yikes - with two GSDs, I can't imagine the food bill!
YGM!
