Has anyone else had a cookie exchange?
I really would like to have a cookie exchange around Christmas. Has anyone ever done one? I am trying to figure out what to do. Do you play games to pass the time?
There will be women of all ages.
Thanks!
Re: Has anyone else had a cookie exchange?
I have some savory apps and usually a hot chocolate & coffee bar set up for guests. We mingle and once everyone arrives, we do introductions, talk a bit about the cookie we brought to swap. After that I hand out holiday containers for everyone to fill with cookies. We mingle/eat/drink some more, swap recipe cards and that's pretty much it.
For this year's swap, we're adding another component with friends who are into teas, cocoas and coffees. Some friends will be bringing cookies to swap while others will be bringing loose leaf teas, hot cocoas &/or whole bean coffees to swap (which have been packaged up). That way everyone gets to take home a nice assortment of cookies along with teas/cocoa/coffee beans.
Some folks incorporate awards for cookies but I don't do it because it would mean some folks won't get recognized (and we're a bunch of serious foodies/bakers).

Girl you go all out! Those honey cookies from 07 look soooo good! Thank you for your help. I have so many ideas now and I can't wait to start planning. : )
My friend does one every year on a weeknight in early December. The party doesn't last more than 2 hrs. She serves some light apps while people are arriving and she makes introductions for anyone new. The rules are:
Must be homemade, must bring 96 pieces (something like that), if you make a candy, package it like it would be the size of one cookie, bring the cookies on a platter ready to serve.
We all bring our own dishes to put the cookies in. Then she divides the number of cookies by number of guests and rounds off. We all go through once and get that number of cookies. At the end is a free-for-all for what's left.
