Re: Thanksgiving Menu

  • It's just DH, our 1yo, and I this year so it'll be kind of standard- turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, sausage stuffing, peas, and cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie for dessert.
  • Every year we have chosen a theme in which we celebrate Thanksgiving. This year, we're celebrating with foods that represent the various regions of our country - Thanksgiving style! The regions that will be highlighted in our tentative menu include:

    Pacific Northwest
    - Wild Rice and Chanterelle Salad with Dried Fruit, Goat Cheese, and Walnuts (Oregon)
    - Roasted Salmon w/Horseradish Creme Fraiche (Alaska)
    - Green Bean, Fennel and Chanterelle Mushroom Casserole with Crispy Fried Walla Walla Onions (Washington State)

    New England
    - Winter Squash and Sage Dinner Rolls (Connecticut)
    - Clam Chowder (Massachusetts)
    - Maple Braised Short Ribs (Vermont)

    South
    - Cajun Fried Turkey (Louisiana)
    - Bourbon Candied Yams (Kentucky)
    - Cornbread Pecan Dressing (Georgia)

    Midwest
    - Apple Cider Glazed Pork (Michigan)
    - Creamy Herbed Mashed Potatoes (Idaho)
    - Cranberry Pear Relish (Wisconsin)

    Southwest
    - Guajillo-Tamarind Glazed Chicken (Texas)
    - Chipotle Corn Salad (New Mexico)
    - Cauliflower Gratin with Queso Cotija (Arizona)

The main Thanksgiving feast (entrees & sides) will be prepared by us,  where our guests are welcome to bring an appetizer, dessert or drinks to share. We will have an appetizer station for those that will be bringing an appetizer, a dessert station for those that will be bringing a dessert and a drink station for those that will be bringing drinks to share. To balance all the offerings, we'll be adding appetizers, drinks and desserts as needed.

  • Wow, compared to Joelen my menu looks so boring!

But, we are having: turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, wild rice casserole, a veggie (tbd), sweet potato souffl?, cranberry sauce, caramel apple pecan pie for dessert.  Apps: artichokes and meatballs.

  • Turkey, ham, chicken, smoked sausages, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, sweet potato casserole, rolls, stuffing, and probably pumkin pie, brownies, cookies, and maybe another pie.
  • My grandma cooks, not very healthy or colorful, but it is tradition and I wouldn't change anything!

veggie tray/pickles to munch on before dinner

    • turkey w/gravy
    • stuffing
    • mashed potatoes
    • sweet potatoes with marshmallow (good once a year!)
    • corn - frozen from the summer
    • applesauce - homemade
    • cranberry, grape, pineapple, walnut salad
    • dinner rolls
    • apple and pumkin pie
  • Very excited about Thanksgiving this year!

Turkey and Southern MD Stuffed Ham

Stuffing (2) - traditional and sausage

  • We'll be having 25-30 people at my IL's.

Apps: crabbies, cocktail weiners, bruschetta, chips and homemade onion dip (a tradition), deviled eggs, and pickle/olive tray

Dinner:  cajun baked turkey, beef brisket, broccoli and rice casserole, sausage and oyster stuffing, regular dressing and gravy, English peas, creamed potatoes, corn casserole, green bean bundles wrapped in bacon, rolls, cranberry sauce, strawberry fluff salad

Dessert: caramel apple pie, chocolate cake, and pumpkin pie
