Hi ladies!!! I've posted a few times on this board before... and I'm finally going to be in the area in 2 weeks!!! I'll be flying in in the middle of the night on the 10 and I have a job interview that day at 3:00; the company is in Chesterfield and they already arrange my hotel accommodations nearby and car rental, which is great!!! My DH is flying in on Friday so we can spend the weekend looking at houses (as I've mentioned we want to move there pretty bad, the only thing we need is for 1 of us to find a job, but since I've never been there we want to take advantage of this trip and look around and get the feeling for the city).
Any way, the point of my post is that I want some info on:
1) What type of clothes should I bring with me? (besides for the interview). Is it just hot or is it hot and rainy too?
2) What type of dress code do the majority of the companies have out there? How formal/informal is it? I work in the manufacturing field - Engineering. (I plan to wear formal clothes for the interviews but I'm already thinking about what to wear when/if I get hired since we won't be able to move all of our stuff until a month later or so).
3) Any general recommendations on what should I see on my first visit to get the feel for the city?
We're looking into houses in St. Charles, Dardenne Prairie, Weldon Heights (not sure if this name is correct), O Fallon and St. Peters.
Thanks for the help!!!
Re: "Visiting" St. Louis July 10-13
1st of all, i want a bite of that Tiramisu! LOL
1) It's HOT and humid here now... I would also plan for rain just in case because we seem to be getting a lot of that now.. Although, if it rains, it will just be hot, muggy and humid! LOL
2) I work in Chesterfield as well! I can't comment on the dress code because i don't know where you'll be working, but Chesterfield is more upper class then some areas in St. Louis... Obvioulsy interview in a suit or something nice, but it's up to your own company for the dress code. We're business casual...so for us women, that's slacks and button up shirts, etc. I don't wear a suit daily.
3) i don't get out much, so i can't really give you an idea of what to see. It depends on what you're wanting to do. Do you want to site see? Go to dinner? Go to the Zoo? I'd say go to the Arch grounds, but we have some flooding going on right now. You'll have to see how it is when you get here.
My sister lives in O'Fallon/Dardenne Prairie and it's a nice area. That side of the river is very affordable and if you're going to be working in Chesterfield, that would be a great commute. Not far at all. Maybe 10-15 minutes? That's an awesome commute compared to some of us!
Good luck on your interview!! And, have a great time in STL. I'm sorry I'm not much help!
Lots of good questions... First off good luck with your job interview, what company are you interviewing with?
Answers to your questions:
1) What type of clothes should I bring with me? (besides for the interview). Is it just hot or is it hot and rainy too?
-it's very hot and humid in saint louis, i'd recommend lighter clothes if you plan on being outside. If you're doing in door/out door stuff, maybe a pair of kapris?
2) What type of dress code do the majority of the companies have out there? How formal/informal is it? I work in the manufacturing field - Engineering. (I plan to wear formal clothes for the interviews but I'm already thinking about what to wear when/if I get hired since we won't be able to move all of our stuff until a month later or so).
-this really varies from company to company. Dh's company he can dress casual, mine is more professional. I'd ask the company when you're here, what their dress code policy is.
3) Any general recommendations on what should I see on my first visit to get the feel for the city?
- on the main STL site, there is a blog (mine actually) that lists all sorts of STL stuff to do and see. I'd scroll all the way to the bottom to the first few posts and read those.
A suggestion I might throw in there... hwy 40 is shut down for a few miles, so even though mapquest/google maps downtown might send you down 40 from chesterfield to downtown you won't be able to do that.
I live in Saint Charles and I believe it's a great place to live. St. Peters was voted best zip code to live in a year or two ago, and Ofallon is continually ranked one of the best cities in the country (google it and alot of different cities will pop up, cnnmoney.com, etc). Can't really go wrong!
Have a great time in Saint Louis, let us know if there's any otherquestions you may have
Thanks girls!!! Very helpful. I think I'll look around what everybody's wearing when I go for the interview. I usually dress formally when we have an audit, we're going to a customer's site or I feel like it, but the majority of the time it's a jeans and cute shirt for me
I don't own a lot of shorts, and no capris!!! I know I guess I just don't like how I look in them, but I guess I'll start looking for some cute ones since I'll probably be boiling in jeans!!!
I'll let you know how it goes!!! Keep your fingers crossed and pray for us!!! We really want this so we can afford house, kids, one of us to stay at home, etc (instead of picking and choosing in San Diego).
