where should we visit?

Hi ladies, my hubby & I are coming to visit & check out the Phoenix & surrounding areas the first week in Nov.  Are there any places we should def. hit up?  We're possibly looking into moving to the area from PA, so we wanna try to see as much stuff as possible in a week.  TIA

Re: where should we visit?

  • Hmmm, im new to the area myself (just got here in July) but if you want something fun to do, you could go to the arizona state fair... www.azstatefair.com

Have fun looking around! I love it here!

  • We just moved here at the end of May from Upstate NY...I think you will LOVE it here esp. right now, the weather is amazing!

What kind of stuff do you want to see/do?

There's Sedona, which is beautiful but a ways from Phoenix and the Grand Canyon.

Things around here...a football game (pro or college)? Mill Ave? Tempe Marketplace? Old Scottsdale?

  • Thanks I think so too!  It's so cold up here already.  :(

We really wanna check out the area & sightsee.  We're really not looking for sports or shopping entertainment.  We're def. planning on going to the Grand Canyon & Sedona (2 diff. days), but beyond that, we're open to exploring.  We're staying at a place in Tempe.

  • There's a lot to do here!  If you like golf, there are tons of courses!  There are several museums downtown and the Desert Botanical Garden is pretty cool!  Also Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West is in Scottsdale.  There is a lot of yummy dining, depending on what you like.  There is a great night-life in Tempe, since that is where you're staying.  GL & hope you have a great visit!
  • Definitely check out Cave Creek.  I grew up in the Phoenix area but never really knew how neat Cave Creek was until I moved here a few months ago.  The downtown area really has a "small town" feel, and there are tons of cool local restaurants and bars.  Plus, you have great views of the beautiful desert!  Hope you have a great trip and enjoy Arizona!

  • If you are staying in Tempe, then you have Mill ave and the Tempe beach park to check out. My favorite restaurant in Tempe is Pita Jungle! Super YUM!

Also go check out Old Town Scottsdale...Lots of great shopping (Scottsdale Fashion Square is the best mall Everrrr) To many great restaraunts to list!!! And the SPAs in Scottsdale are the boom. If you and the DH have a free hour or so you should go get massages at The Lamar, its maybe 15 minutes from Tempe.

If you are into hiking you should go check out piestawa (sp) peak, (Used to be called Squaw Peak)

Our Zoo isnt to great...but the desert botanical gardens is cool, you will see a bunch of plants you've never seen before.

Thats about it....The state fair is fun, it is in a ghetto area though, so dont let that have any bearing on your judgement of PHX.

  • I would take a day to catch the Light Rail from Tempe up to downtown.  There are tons of Museums and the Science Center is just off the LRT path.  There are a bunch of neat restaurants, and just walking around downtown can be cool.

Old Town Scottsdale is also a great place to check out for unique shops and scenery.

We also have a really neat Wildlife Zoo out west of Phoenix.  They usually have baby white tigers (so cute!).
