**JULIE**

JULIE.  I did something VERY bad.

I did exactly what I promised myself I would NOT do.  But it was by accident.  I swear.

I read this http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/24188076.aspx (warning to all - Outlander spoilers)

I don't think I can continue now.

Re: **JULIE**

  • Er...yeah...about that scene.

Did you read the responses from the other people? JenandToni... said it very well. Yes, that scene made me squirm and I hated it. Does Jamie hit Claire? Yes. Now I am 10,000% against men beating women (and vice versa) but does she kinda deserve it for what she did (at least in his eyes/appropriate for the setting of the time)? I think so. Especially after you hear his explanation about it. I hated reading about it. But always remember that Claire is a bit dramatic and exaggerates. And does Jamie completely redeem himself and become uberhot and sensitive and wonderful? Absolutely. I heart James Fraser.

Persevere...that's all I have to say about it.

p.s. After we JUST talked about reading spoilers!

  • And just in case anyone is reading this that hasn't read Outlander...these books take place in the 1700's...that's what I meant by "the setting of the time." I would never support a man beating a woman or saying that she 'kinda deserved it' IRL. You just have to read the series.
  • I did read the responses.  Obviously I haven't hit this part in the book yet, so I'll have to see what my real reaction will be.

I guess I just feel like no matter what, that will taint my picture of him in my head.  Even if there is decent justification...it just makes me feel weird you know?  It's not the face that he beats her that bothers me, but more that he beats his wife.  Hmm... We'll see how it is when I get there.

But Jamie is starting off pretty low in my book.  Even though he took the beating for that girl in Hall.

I will attempt to keep the spoilers at bay.  I haven't gone looking for them at least.  It would be nice if for once in my life a book wasn't ruined by my bad intentions.

  • I didn't like that he took the beating for that girl (Laoghaire). It's sweet and all...but she is still in the books later and I don't like her.

All I'm going to say is give it a chance. Read past that part, and read to the part when they talk afterward. If you still don't like him, or you just can't get past it, you can always just stop reading.

  • Oh you know me.  I'll persevere through almost anything once.

    Smile

  • You two are peaking my interest!  I need a new book!  Maybe I'll wait until you're done Jaye...

It's a good book so far!
