What GPS do you recommend?

My sister and I are going to get my brother a GPS for Christmas.  We need something on the cheaper end, but that works well and has speech since its safer and he usually drives alone.

TIA

Re: What GPS do you recommend?

  • We have a Garmin Nuvi, one of the w models. I like it a lot  and it's easy to use.

It talks but does not say the street names (ie it says "turn left in 500 ft" not "turn left of Main St in 500").

  • We have a Garmin Nuvi, they have good sales at Costco if you are a member there.  Ours does say street names (and sometimes how she pronounces them is hilarious)

  • We've got the Garmin Nuvi 250W (which is now discontinued, but I think the 255W is comparable) and we love it.

None of the crazy bells and whistles (no MP3 or bluetooth) but it does the job very well.  Plus it had the map for all of Canada and the US.  I think it cost us ~$250 CAD.

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

  • Ours is a Garmin Nuvi 265wt; it says the street names and came with a lifetime subscription for traffic info, which was important to us.  We got it at Costco for a good deal (cheaper than we could find it online), but I don't remember how much.  More than $200, less than $300.
  • Ditto Garmin Nuvi.  I bought mine from Amazon for under $100.
  • we also have a garmin nuvi, i love that it talks, which helps when you can't look at the screen. dh keeps it in his car and i'd like one for my car too. we'll probably get another garmin.

  • We have a TomTom XL that we like a lot, same price range.

  • Garmin Nuvi and we love it.  We use it a lot and it is pretty accurate.
  • I have a Garmin 265WT - got it for $150 on Amazon almost a year ago now. I adore that thing...it's got the lifetime traffic, Bluetooth, says the street names - it's a great GPS. I've used it a lot to avoid construction and bad traffic, and it's awesome with that, too.
