Re: Does anyone hunt?
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

Been making trips to our land in S Texas since I was 9 months old, shot my first whitetail when I was 14. I love hunting, my whole family are big hunters and DH is too. We can't wait to take our kids out there and share the same experiences we had growing up with them!
I mainly stick to deer, coyote, and hogs.. maybe a few rabbits if I'm feelin' froggy. I actually have never been a big bird hunter, although I have never missed going out on September 1st because it might be considered blasphemy
OP, you hunt?
Bowhunter. I went turkey hunting in spring (got nothing) and now it's deer! I am going out tonight and tomorrow. I have been out only once before and I didn't see ANYTHING!
I want to get my fi a trail cam, he is a hig bowhunter as well, and he has lots of different places he hunts. We'd like to see if there's activity, so he has been mentioning a trail cam lately, and I thinking it'd be cool to get him one, but I don't know which one to get. I was hoping for some recommendations.
Awesome, a bowhunter! I love turkey hunting also, however I only started in the last couple of seasons since we got a ranch in E Texas, we never saw any down south.... Turkey hunting has definitely been my most challenging hunting experience, they are slippery suckers! DH had 3 magnificent toms strutting in front of a water trough last year but he gets bad buck fever and they spotted him (and he's not the best shot ever, but don't tell him I said that!)
I don't know where you are hunting, but here it is still way early in the rut, so I'm not surprised you haven't seen a deer. If get set early enough, and stay there long enough (some people go in at 6am, stay till noon but i'm more of a 7-10 hunter and I've had plenty of success) you'll get some action, but I have never hunted this early because I'm not a bowhunter (I'm the lazy hunter, I know
)
A trail cam would be a GREAT gift, that is our family default gift for the men, besides flashlights (lol). I would highly recommend the Cuddeback trail cam, it's super easy to set up and more reliable than most.
I will check into a cuddeback, thanks for the tip!
We have a trail cam and it works great. I'll have to check the brand this evening when I get home, but I'm pretty sure it cost about $100. It's not the best, but we haven't had any problems with it. And if you want to leave it in the woods, it's not so expensive you'd worry about it getting stolen. I'm pretty sure we got it from Sportsman's Guide.
ETA: I guess I could look before I post. I'm pretty sure it's this one.

Sorry for the lack of clicky.
