Is this a good deal for tires/brakes/alignment?
Hi,
While i was getting an oil change at Monro Muffler in Hudson, they told me I needed 4 new tires, alignment, and rear brakes/rotors replaced. I knew my tires were getting bad (i have 74,000 miles on my '03 altima and have not yet replaced the originals. For all the parts/labor, i was quoted $837. The tires alone are $147 each (goodyear), but he is giving me 25% off so it seems like a good deal? Also, i had my rear brakes replaced about 3 yrs ago (30k miles ago), so i guess they are due for replacement? I wonder if i should get a few more quotes from other shops or if this one is pretty decent?
Re: Is this a good deal for tires/brakes/alignment?
I must have read it too fast....I didn't realize where you had it done, so I would have to agree that they may be trying to scam you....I went to a Jiffy Lube once and they told me I needed my rear taillight replaced, I told them no b/c I figured my SD could fix it for me, and later realized it was absolutely fine!!
I won't claim to be an expert on cars, and for that reason I always try to get at least two opinions when my car needs work! Sometimes it validates a hunch...and sometimes the outcome is surprising.
With regard to tires...there's such a wide range of them out there, so the pricing could really run the gamut. As long as you know the type/size you want, you can call other places and ask them for a quote over the phone (i.e. you don't need to bring the car in for that). Just ask them how much 4 of that specific tire would be, installed. They can also tell you if they carry them in stock or need to order them.
They can definitely quote you on the alignment over the phone, as well, and I would think the rear brake job, too. But you will probably want to bring the car in to have it checked out in person to see if the brakes are truly in need of being replaced. In my experience, there is no hard and fast rule in terms of mileage dictating replacement. My car has over 50K miles on it; and I have not yet needed any brake work; my husband's car has barely 25K miles on it, and he just needed to have his rotors replaced because the car would have failed inspection otherwise. Go figure.
FYI, looks like Goodyear is offering a rebate right now, for certain tires (if you purchase by 7/5): http://www.goodyeartires.com/cfmx/web/gytires/promotions/UpTo100Rebate/rebateForm.cfm?certificate=CWebNPP3
We've had good experiences at Sullivan Tire in Nashua. My parents have been bringing their cars to Tire Town in Merrimack forEVER. Just a couple of thoughts.
Good luck!
I will not go to Monro, ever. The one in Merrimack has ripped us off before.
I can give you the name of a fantastic mechanic in Manchester that I trust implicitly if you are willing to drive there. They have saved us at least hundreds of dollars over the past few years, if not thousands, ugh. I always go to one place and then have my favorite quote me anytime I need work.
This is great info to know Heather!! Thanks
Oh, I have heard wonderful things from multiple ppl about Tire Town in Merrimack. They have even done work on my car and while I was there met ppl who had been going there for years and years!
