What's up with my holly bush?

We planted a holly bush in our backyard this summer.  It's roughly the same size/shape as when we planted it (maybe a little bigger) except for one branch...it's sticking straight up out of the top and has grown at least 3ft. since being planted.

Any idea what's going on?   Is this one branch an over-achiever, or is the rest of my plant just lazy?

Re: What's up with my holly bush?

  • Hmm - I think your holly bush and my holly bush are twins! Don't stress - I think it's normal. Mine do that as well. It's just new growth on the bushes.

  • We had a similar thing happen with our evergreen. No worries, that's just how it grew this year.

  • Thanks ladies.  I appreciate the reassurance.
  • My holly bushes seem to enjoy a good trimming. They grow quite a bit each year and I hack them down.
