Once a month at my work, we have a birthday celebration for whoever's birthdays are in that month - our work buys a small cake, but we all bring something to munch on as well (usually along the lines of chips and dip, cookies, that sort of thing - nothing major). This month one of the birthdays is a Canadian who moved here about 8 years ago. He's turning 40 and doesn't want a big fuss, but I thought it might be fun to do something special for him anyway.
Is there any kind of Canadian treat that I might be able to make that he'd like? I know this might sound dopey, but I was thinking like if Canucks have a particular cookie that they like or something (e.g., Australians like their special Anzac cookies). Because I'm a loser, all I can think of are things involving maple syrup. ![]()

What a thoughtful thing to do for your co-worker
The first idea that comes to mind is Nanaimo Bars! They are Canadian and from BC, would those work? Recipe: http://www.joyofbaking.com/NanaimoBars.html I will chime in if I think of something else...
Sorry, can't link to it as my Mac won't do it
I love Hawaii!

Oooh these could work!
Ohhhh yes...Nanaimo Bars
Here is a site 10 Popular Canadian Desserts. The only one I have not heard of before is the pudding recipe.
However, the Beaver Tails and Butter Tarts I would highly recommend. They are deeeee-lish.
Oooh, I like the Nanaimo Bar idea!
This might be hard to find since there's no Thanksgiving in Oz but if you can find anything turkey-looking (I was thinking a cookie or something) since Canadian Thanksgiving was this month. I wonder if you could find some other bird cookie cutter and try to ice it so it looks like a turkey? Or a turkey cake?
