Setting a beautiful table-opinions please

I know i have posted about China serving pieces before and I had some recommend getting other serving pieces that were not of the china pattern but of silver plated or something of that nature.  I have the Mikasa Parchment pattern and wanted to get some opinions from you if these pieces, though a different style/pattern, would go well with my china to make my table look great!

Here is my China Pattern

Here are some serving pieces I am considering (The salad server, rectangular tray and lazy susan), but I am not sure if they look "old lady" or would clash with my china pattern and I want to get more serving bowls, which I didn't see in this pattern.

And these are the centerpiece items I am considering

Would all three patterns be too much or clash?  Do you have any suggestions of other serving pieces instead?

Re: Setting a beautiful table-opinions please

  • To me, those look a little dated.  What about doing something a little more modern in style, like Kate Spade or Vera Wang?  Both have fine china and they have a few crystal pieces (if that's what you're looking for), but they have of a streamlined appearance than the Lenox pieces.

  • I can see what you mean.  The problem I have is that those pieces that you mentioned, if I am not wrong, are not in my price range, but I will look into it.
  • I agree with pp about them looking a bit dated...I love Wilton Armetale pieces and Luigi Bormioli. The latter is glass, but I love it because it can be dressed up or down. I also like Mikasa Curve. I have a china pattern similar to yours and I love the way these pieces look together.

  • The pieces aren't modern, but I still like them.  I was given a few crystal pieces (similar to the ones you posted) for my wedding and I wasn't sure if they were my style when I first got them.  I hosted a party and needed serveware so I used them, and I thought they looked awesome. Much nicer than I had anticipated.

So if they are in your price range and they do go well with your china, I think you should get them.

  • Sorry, sweetie, I gotta veto those.  I agree with pp - they're out of fashion.

I think I told you before to check out antique stores, juntique stores and flea markets.  I promise you you can find more serving dishes than you'll know what to do with.  Serving pieces are regularly just a couple dollars.  That granny butter dish you linked to was $60.  For $60 you can buy a dozen serving pieces at a second-hand shop.  Just go look!

You can see my Armetale in my bio in the fall party page.  Much of what you see is second-hand.

I do remember that suggestion, but I don't live near any stores like that.  The "antique" stores anywhere near me are literally glorified junk stores.  I have browsed for a diamond in the rough, but only found junk...I didn't think I linked to a butter dish.  If I did it was a mistake.  I am not looking to get one of those.  I would never spend that much on one anyway!Smile  I looked at what you have and it is very nice (Your house is beautiful!), close to what I am looking for, though I haven't given much thought to going the silver  route.  I agree, now that I look at what I was considering, they really aren't my style.  I like something clean and chic, which is not what I would describe those pieces that I posted.  I don't want to go too contemporary and modern, though, because that will inevitably look dated also.  I want to find clean, sophisticated, classic pieces.

After your inspiring photos, I checked out the Wilton Armetale and found this pattern that I really like.  I think it will go well, but let me know what you think.

  • Flutes and pearls is a great choice!  Total classic that tons of my friends have.  It regularly goes on sale for half off, so it's completely affordable.

You linked to the pattern page for that crystal and the first item listed in the pattern was the $60 butter dish...I know you didn't want a $60 butter dish :)

It sucks that you don't have any good shops.  Check out others when you go on vacation :)
