Fall Party ideas....help!

So I invited 12 neighbors/families to our home for a Fall fun/pumpkin carving party on Saturday but now the forcast call for rain and I wrote on the invite...pumpkin carving will be weather permitting.....since we don't have a big enough space to do it anywhere else but outside. Now I don't know what to do since since I thought that would be a good family activity.

The party is from 2-5 so it's just appetizers/desserts.It can't have a halloween theme since not everyone celebrates it.?

What kind of activites could I do for the kids ages (2-13) ?

Also any food ideas/ easy apps ? ?

This is the first time someone is hosting a neighborly gathering.?

Re: Fall Party ideas....help!

  • Could you not set everyone up in your garage to carve pumpkins?  From the looks of it in your bio, it would be big enough.
  • Easy games for kids:

Guess how much (candy, pennies, marbles) are in the jar.  Winner gets the jar.

    Bobbing for apples

Pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern

Memory.  Put fall themed items under a cover and uncover for 3-5 seconds.  Have everyone write down all the things they can remember.  You can switch out the items and play this game over and over.  Do variations of it....if there is a caramel apple under the cover and nothing else-first kid to yell out their name wins the apple, put one item that isn't fall related and have them write that down, etc.

Fall items find.  (Like an easter egg hunt)  Hide different fall items that kids would like in your house.  Let them loose to find them.  You could use mini pumpkins, and have one for every child, they have to find the one with their name on it?

  • Halloween is a no, but pumpkin carving is OK?  Isn't that pretty much a Halloween thing?   Maybe you can just decorate them with markers and stickers inside.
  • My Aunt just had a fall party, and the kids all were given pumpkin shaped sugar cookies, and they had all kinds of sprinkles/candies and colored frostings, and they all got to decorate some. It looked like they had fun :)

I'm also hosting a fall dinner party here soon, and I'm going to make mulled wine! It's really easy to make and such a fall type beverage. I always go to Real Simple magazine, Rachel Ray, etc.. for easy and fun appetizer ideas! You should check those places out :)

  • Paint the pumpkins!  If regular pumpkins are too large do mini ones. :)
