Holiday Cookie Swap

I'd like to host a casual cookie swap for a handful of girlfriends.  Does three dozen per person sound right?

When would you say is the best time to have a cookie swap?  I know at least last year early Dec. was full of company holiday parties around here so that's why I ask.

Thanks!

Re: Holiday Cookie Swap

  • I have only been to two swaps before, but usually everyone brought one dozen cookies for each other person attending. For example if there are 6 people total, including you, you will need to bring 5 dozen cookies. I know it seems like a lot, but that means everyone gets to leave with 5 dozen assorted cookies.

Whats really fun is the spouses in our group decided to get together the same afternoon and have a beer swap. Instead of a dozen brews per person it was 2 bottles each. They had a great time, but we were the dd's.

Sorry I can't help with the time. It really depends on when everyone's party schedule starts up.

    Good Luck!

  • I think making a dozen for each guest seems like a lot. I guess it really depends on how many people you are having, but I think it would be ideal if each person went home with about 2 dozen.

I hosted a cookie exchange and I think everyone made about 2 dozen. We just took a couple of each and that was plenty for us.

The cookie exchange was part of my regular Christmas party. Instead of gifts we did the cookie exchange and everyone filled their tins at the end of the night before leaving.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

  • The exchange I go to is always on a week night.  This alleviates some of the pressure of planning around other parties.  She sends invites late October and has everyone return the recipe with the RSVP and compiles that all into a book.  I want to say we do enough for 4 cookies of each kind.
  • A dozen cookies per person does seem like a lot but I guess it depends on how many people you're having and how much you and your guests want to bake. I wouldn't go over a dozen, but I think 6 cookies per person is also fine.

I agree with you about December being a busy month for a lot of people. I've considered holding on in late November, shortly before Thanksgiving. I don't like to keep that much sweets in my house, so knowing that we'd have company or be visiting, I'd probably have the cookies for the holiday. It might be a fun was to gear up for Thanksgiving and crowd December too much.

  • I usually do one with DH's aunts.  We bring three dozen cookies.  We also bring ornaments to exchange.  It's lots of fun.  We usually do it right before Thanksgiving (weekend before) or the first weekend in December before things get really busy.  Sometimes if schedules get busy we also do it the second week in Nov.  Just depends.  Sometimes it's fun to have the sweets in the house early so we don't over induldge come Christmas.

  • I guess a dozen each could seem like alot, but we all do most of the hostessing for our families and we serve the cookies at those parties as well as taking them to our respective offices for holiday parties. We wouldn't fit through our own doors if we ate them all ourselves. No matter how delicious that would be!
